Now by the time most of you read this the finals will be over but ... Keller had the slowest split, OBVIOUSLY Phelps (& I'm guessing Lochte) are a done deal ... Vanderkaay put up a 1:46.67 leading off followed by Jayme Cramer's 1:47.97, David Walters 1:47.75 & Keller's 1:48.60 ...
Do you take a total rookie? Slightly more experience with Cramer, or a struggling but veteran Keller? Personally I say give the rookie a shot, who knows what he'll put up next year.
My prediction: Phelps, Lochte, Vanderkaay, & Cramer
I'd like to see ... Phelps, Lochte, Vanderkaay & Walters ...
Remember, US did not take all records from Australia, you had to take the 4 X 100m away from South Africa first. Having said that our East German born SA coach is really a wet blanket. He does not know how to inspire a bunch of youngsters. I think we are way too diverse for him.
They did that at Pan Pacs actually ...
one more record taken from australia now we got 12 and they only have 3.

I want America to do well, don't you?
Yes, I want America to do well. But I don't think that when a US swimmer breaks a record that it should be thrown in the face of the other country whose swimmer(s) had the previous record.
When someone makes a comment like "we have 12, they have 3 now" that's exactly what is happening, throwing it in the face of the other countries. Swimming fans should be above stuff like that...applaud the US effort or whatever country did the swim but don't become rude about it.

Indeed. The day will come when the US will be the one losing it's seat as the swimming superpower. We should have the courtesy to treat others as we would like to be treated sometime in the future.
This has so many parallels, not the least of which deals with the US being the global superpower. Yikes.
Vis a vis Australian Men's swimming versus US Mens swimming, this is a golden opportunity to be gracious in victory and from all that I've seen, they are doing exactly that. Props for them.

I want the US to do well, but I want them to do it with class. There is a big difference. It's about respecting the other athletes and realizing how quickly the tables can turn ... say a Thorpe & Hackett-less 800 free team ... it's fun to have records exchange hands it adds to the excitement & rivalry. If the US just went out and dominated every race in a 1-2 fashion always lowering the WR and never even making a real race out of it, it would get boring FAST.
And Keller split a 1:46 and they went a WR, so I guess that shows what I know ... PERHAPS it's showing confidence & faith in an athlete and he needed it!

Just to add a little to your comments about the American team showing a lot of class in victory Peter, ....It also looks as if the Aussies have shown a lot of class as well. From what I have read, the Aussies in the crowd all applauded Phelps after he broke Ian Thorpes' 200 free record. So both countries (The U.S. and Australia) seem to be reacting to the swim meet with a high degree of class IMO.....Which is of course a great thing to see!
