I will go out on a limb and say that we will see at least one of the two (Crocker or Phelps) under 50 for the first time. Maybe even both, but I predict Phelps will take it......
Any others?
Phelps: 50.32
Crocker: 50.65
But then again, I guessed Phelps would only go 1:44.5 in the 200 free. I didn't think he could quite match Thorpe's last 50.
Personally, I think his 100 free on the relay was his wake-up swim. Yes, it was a PB, but the first swim to get the jiitters out and he only dropped a half-second. I think he's bound to drop more in the 100 fly, if for no other reason than he has nothing else to worry about that day, and he knows the type of race he needs to swim (as he did against Hoogie).
I reserve the right to adjust this after seeing his 200 IM.
I am sad to admit I think Phelps is going to take this one with a new WR 50 low/49 high ... having said that Crocker has been resting all week so hopefully he'll be ready to go and pop off a riddiculous :49.xx beating Phelps and continuing the rivalry ...
That slow Warren?
That would mean phelps drops .45 off of his best. He dropped around that in the 100 free. And crocker is a little off his game, when he broke the 100 fly world record in motreal his time in the 50 was 23.13 I think. This year his 50 time was 23.30. But a prediction like this is hard to make, anything could happen in this race.
Never mind the winning time, to draw into the 3 seeded heats took a 53.34 or lower (top 24). The top people, Crocker, Phelps and one or two others can semi-relax in heats/semis but all the others...means the world mark could drop semis and finals.
That's a skinny limb and it's bound to break. Phelps 100 fly drop should be proportionate to his 100 free drop give or take. In freestyle MP went from 48.8 to 48.4 so he'll go from 51.1 to around 50.6. Phelps should get out faster than he's ever been out before, he'll probably barely break 24, he's proven he can come home in 26 low.
Crocker is faster than Phelps in the 50 and so far in the 100, but will Crocker hold off Phelps? Looking at Crockers team mates, Walker swam poorly, Weber Gale swam a little off, Hansen was a little off his 100 *** PR. Piersol swam great.
I'd love to see someone break 50, but I'll go out on limb and predict that your prediction is wrong.
