We have a few grudge races amongst forum regulars coming up at Colonies Zones. They are:
Muppet vs. Dave Barra: 200 fly
SwimStud vs. Muppet: 50 ***
Fortress vs. SwimmieAvsFan: 50 back
Here's the poll. Place your bets; no limits on voting. All races should be hotly contested. All commentary, advice and cheering accepted. If anyone else has another grudge race, pile on.
I'm just going to my boring old health club gym tonight to swim in 86 degree water. Blech.
Fort- Which gym pool do you go to?
3600 yards and I still can't think of a handicap for myself. I'm not feeling very creative today. I'll have to check out the thread.
Mollie...you'll HAVE to be in our heat. I entered with my 30.57 from last year. This is going to be SOOOOO much fun. Good thing it's the last event on Saturday. A few relays and then we can all head out for dinner together.
There's a Red, Hot & Blue right around the corner and I believe an Outback not too far away.

Wow, let the banter begin! I sure have missed a lot! All I will say is to all who voted in my favor, thank you, and I will try not to let you down. It will definetely be a great meet!
:drink:   :notworthy: :applaud: :groovy:
i'm still not sure how i ended up in the fast heat for the 50 last year... anyone who knows me knows i'm sure as heck not a sprinter!!!
i remember seeing you guys' heat and thinking how crazy of a finish it was (and of course, secretly wishing i was in that heat, and not the one with SP and SW...)
i think i entered with a 30.62, so hopefully i end up in the same heat as you guys this year... but with my luck, you'll all end up in the fast heat, without me.
:shakeshead:
Excuse me, do you not swim a most excellent 100 free and 100 back?!?! The last time I checked, those were sprints. Not the more desirable 25 or 50 distance, mind you, but still a sprint.
You and Julie are so literal about seed times, 30.62789. Jeez. Who can even remember their times to the hundreth? I just look at the entry form blankly, try to decide whether I'm feeling fast, slow or irreparably injured and send in a rounded time. He, he.
Julie:
I belong to the Regency Sport & Health Club in McLean off 123. I also work out a lot at Springhill Rec. Someone asked me if I was the "girl on the wall" the other day, i.e., Kate Ziegler.   Lapswimmers are so nice. Not only does she have dark brown hair, she's got at least 8 inches on me.
Slowswim:
Lots of tris swim in SCY or SCM pools. You'll be OK. Take care of that shoulder. Do a lot of drills and kicking while you're resting.

About seed times...I have a spreadsheet with all my times from masters. I like to seed myself with my best time so that I'll know when I'm done if I got a PR or not by looking at the heat sheet. For the most part I remember times pretty well. Phone numbers are the same. I don't know, I'm just a numbers person.
About Regency...Last week I started swimming mornings there with a friend who, like me, is completely obsessed with long distance open water swimming right now. She was at Albatross and will be at Friday night of ZOnes. I'm guessing you're not signing up for the 1000 or 1650?!?!
I can't wait until they take the bubble off of Regency and we can watch the sunrise while swimming! Hopefully it will make the pool seem cooler too :)
I got curious so I looked up our heat:
Lane 1- 31.12
Lane 2- 30.32
Lane 3- 30.25 (Leslie)
Lane 4- 30.30 (Barbara)
Lane 5- 30.13
Lane 6- 30.20
Lane 7- 30.66 (Cheryl)
Lane 8- 30.57 (Julie)
Mollie was in the heat after ours. I remember that race SOOOO well because I looked up at the clock and couldn't even process what had happened. My Mom was watching from the stands and said that everyone just touched at the same time and it could have been anyone's race.
You've GOT to be in our heat again!!! I entered with that time and Barb is already entered with a similar time. You SHOULD have been in our heat in the 100 last weekend!!!!!!
I had no idea that you and Barb even new eachother Les before meeting on this forum.....and now to find out that you guys were so close in a 50 back race last year....very interesting I must say! I wish I could see these races. Someone should video tape some of these races and post them on youtube like Donna suggested. I voted that the races would all be ties and you all would go out for beers afterwards! :)

I don't live right in Fairfax, so I'm not sure what the best place to dine is. Cheryl should know. I'll send her an email. Friday night best?

No fair! I'm just going to my boring old health club gym tonight to swim in 86 degree water. Blech.
So not fair...when I heal, the best I get is a health club pool. I'm moving gyms from Austell to Vinings (Akers Mill), maybe a little better.:dunno:
I miss my LCM pool in Clearwater.
Is it possible to get faster at distance in a SCY pool or is it just:frustrated: ?
