Grudge Races: Place your bets

We have a few grudge races amongst forum regulars coming up at Colonies Zones. They are: Muppet vs. Dave Barra: 200 fly SwimStud vs. Muppet: 50 *** Fortress vs. SwimmieAvsFan: 50 back Here's the poll. Place your bets; no limits on voting. All races should be hotly contested. All commentary, advice and cheering accepted. If anyone else has another grudge race, pile on.
  • Dinner was so much fun! It was great to finally meet forum friends. We need to do it again sometime. Thanks, Fortress, for organizing the dinner! Happy Laps, everyone! Swimmy :)
  • Thanks for the kind words...Couldn't have done it without you Jeff...although I was kind of laughing the whole way because of how much fun it was to race a buddy lane to lane. I didn't realise I subbed 35 until I got home..and also then saw I went sub 30 in the 50 free which is good for a barge like me (a goal I set for that race)...now for backstroke..when is Mollie free to coach? ;) I guess I have to pony up and get an OW event in now too. How far is the bay swim? Bay Swim is 4.4 miles and registration is closed....BUT, they have a 1-mile swim that is awesome. Site says there are less than 40 spots left. It's fun because you can swim the 1-mile which takes place at the end of the 4.4 mile and then you can sit around by the beer truck and wait for us to finish the 4.4 mile swim. Here's the link for registration...The swims are on June 10th. www.lin-mark.com/.../register.asp
  • Studmuffin, There are 2 races---a 4.4 mile and a 1. I think the 4.4 is already filled, but you can come down and do the 1 with me and we can wait for the others to finish. www.bayswim.com or www.lin-mark.com. Swimmy:wave:

How far is the bay swim? Swimming next to someone you know is awesome! I get to swim next to the same people a lot, and the one guy on my team who does the same events as I, when we get next to each other for a 500, watch out!!! Mollie coaches every Tuesday and Friday nights - hop right in! Granted her test subjects are 1/3 your age, but you'll fit right in! :joker: OW is certainly addictive. Just ask Dave "13 swims in 2007" Barra. The Bay Swim (June 10) has a 1mile race which is a great way to get into OW. There is about a 1/4 mile of it that is subject to bay currents, but the rest is fairly easy. Wetsuit is allowed, but this is quick and shallow enough that you don't really need one. Start and Finish are at the same place, and the 4.4 finishes there too - its all at a dockside bar, so the libations flow afterwards! :drink:
  • Can I hang on your ankles if it gets too much for me . I'll cuss out Paris the whole way in. I'll look at that. What is water temp usually? The last 3 years, it was 72 (06), 73 (05) and 75 (04). As I said, for a 1 mile, wetsuit is certainly not needed for those temps. But certainly won't hurt either!
  • I just want to try it at least...I figure even if I'm having a rough time a mile is only a mile and I can breaststroke it if need be. I'll have to look at logistics getting there and back..whether to stay down... etc etc Better enter soon though. It will sell out soon and only 40 spots left as of last Friday. Hope to see you there. Great restaurant (Hemingways) next to the finish and a beer truck too :) Hope to see you there!

I think I should hold onto your ankles, so you can get the jellyfish in your face. You can protect me(since I am a fragile girl) hahaha. Just kidding. No jellyfish there. Please come. It would be so much fun waiting for the 4.4 (crazy) people to arrive. We can start the party early. Swimmy :)
  • SwimStud... Another great OW event and great practice for the Bay are the Reston Jim McDonnell swims that a lot of masters in the area participate in: www.restonmasters.org/2miow.html It was great meeting all of you. Looking forward to seeing everyone again! Katie
