Questions about US swimming

Hey everyone, I have a problem...I don't train very vigrously or religiously when theres no meets in site...so....because there are so few masters meets around me, I am also re-joining US swimming. ((is that allowed? To swim both?)) I was wondering though...how does one get a hold of registration forms for those meets does anyone know? I will be swimming unattached...but I was messing around on the metroswimming website and couldn't find anywhere that had registration forms for meets that I could print and sign up... I suppose this would be better asked on a US forum, but I couldn't find that either:o if anyone could direct me in the right direction that'd be great!
  • Dual huh? Maybe I'll do it. I won't get the paperwork in on time for USS. Fort, which one will you do, there are 2 different pools (Leesburg and Alexandria, I think). My team is in Leesburg. Alison
  • I thought you lived near me. Leesburg? Nope, I will go to the Lee District, not too far. What are you going to swim?
  • actually, senior II is dual sanctioned, so you don't even need to worry about getting USA-S registered. i'm just not sure how you go about entering as a USMS athlete... probably talk to roddin :) Mollie: Jeff just told me that "dual sanctioned" just means that you can submit your USA-S times from that meet to USMS for top ten consideration. You still have to be registered with USA-S swimming to compete in the meet. So no 100 fly for me. Send your times to Jeff, the guy in charge of Top Ten for PV, if you want to have them considered. Good luck!

I'm in Gainesville and swim with OCCS, which is assigned to Leesburg for this meet. I doubt I'll do it, though. Not enough time to register. I'll stick with the 2 (why only 2?) LC USMS meets in the area this year. Next year, in prep for Nationals I might do some USS. Alison

Good luck! really? so does that mean if a meet is NOT dual sanctioned, the times CANNOT be submitted for USMS top ten? cause if that's the case, there's been some shady dealings involving times from the Tom Dolan Invite (which doesn't appear to be a dual sanction, at least not last year...) looking back over old threads, it looks like a registered USMS swimmer can swim in a USA-S meet without being USA-S registered. but it might be different in different areas... who knows...
  • You have to be a USA sanctioned swimmer to swim in a USA meet. USMS sanctioning does not fly. I set up the entries for our teams meet, and I have to send the meet to our LSC on the Monday before the meet. If any swimmer in the meet is not registered with USA, I have to take them out unless there is proof of them registering with USA, or they register with USA at our meet.
  • Kristina, You'll enjoy it. I have one in Brunswick next weekend and I am looking forward to it. This past winter there were several of us swimming USS meets, I always enjoy watching Robert Poiletman and his daughter Diana swim at those meets. Diana and I are usually in the same heat. Good luck in your upcoming meet. Donna

The Dolan meet, probably the fastest meet in our area all year, was not dual sanctioned?!?! I recall seeing some masters swimmers there.
  • I think it's Senior Champs, right? I don't think I qualify! No 50s, can't make the 100 cutoffs. Good luck! If a meet is dual-sanctioned, does that mean you don't need to register for USA swimming? Yes, it's safe to say that hell will freeze over before I do a distance meet. You'd sooner see me in an aquathlon. I did one last year with the fam. Ha, ha. It will be hard to find 50's. At most USA meets, the only 50's offered in Open is the 50 free.

Good luck!Clarification – a dual sanctioned meet is a meet where BOTH USA Swimming and USMS have issued a sanction to the event host. Currently USA Swimming does NOT allow for dual sanctioned events. However, USMS does allow for dual sanctioned events with USA Swimming. The USMS recognition of times achieved at USA Swimming sanctioned events has nothing to do with dual sanctioning. Times achieved by USMS members at a USA Swimming sanctioned event may be submitted for Top 10 consideration. For this to happen the USMS member must also be an athlete member of USA Swimming. You enter and compete under your USA Swimming membership and after the fact you submit your times to your LMSC Top 10 chair.
