Ok so I miss the NY Aqua fit spring Fling b/c of stomach virus at the weekend. I sneeze and threw out my back yeserday morning and now am staring NEM or more accurately NO-NEM in the face. I'm gonna be a bad tempered breaststroker if I can't make it to NEM. Whine, whine, whine, whine, I agreed to sore knees, sore shoulder, manky ear, brittle hair, cold water induced atrophy, blocked bugle, stinking like clorox, and looking comical doing fly. Why I gotta have lower back issues too? :'(
  • I'm bringing my whole team Naproxen, Skelaxin, Vicodin. lol Don't forget the orthopod, chiropractor, ART therapist, PT guy, massage therapist, ENT doc, nutritionist, yoga instructor ... Masochist! Jim: I like your nickname for me much better than SwimStud's!!
  • A couple of years ago I pulled my back by....mopping the floor (guess that will teach me not to do that anymore ;). After that it had spasms sporadically for a few months. I had a routine doctor visit a month or 2 after that, and she prescribed muscle relaxers, which do the trick. Amazing how something that seems so minor and basic can do it. Since then, I've been trying to re-build my tolerance, mostly by getting my abs/stomach back in shape. I'll still get some soreness/stiffness every now and then, but usually at least for a viable reason.
  • I finally decided that I needed to have the shoulder and knee looked at (oddly enough both on the right side) turns out I have a nerve problem in the shoulder that will fortunately NOT become worse from swimming, or at least I can swim through the pain realizing that it might take me further down the recovery path BUT I WILL NOT tear, rip, dislocate, etc anything. I will be able to rehab it! :woot: :woot: GREAT news, though my PT did look at me like I was on crack when I said so I can push through the next two weeks. He said, well you shouldn't compete, I said: I have a meet this weekend he said, how far will you swim, I laughed, not far. Anyway, he thinks I'm nuts, but oh well... Now the knee ... it's off track? Apparently I am a bit young to be having this issue and a lot of pain with it. That needs some series rehab sooner rather than later ... good thing I have a fabulous PT and get it for free (love those connections) State is 5 weeks from this coming Saturday and Sunday so as long as my knee can make it until then ... :applaud:

It's why I want to do swimming core work... but I just can't quite get over the last bout of spasm before something like this happens. Miraculously my Doctor wrote me off of all domestic chores...

Growing up sucks! Are you going to make me tell the story of my "unfortunate waterslide incident" to make you feel better? It ends with finding the World's Greatest Chiropractor and swimming happily ever after at Zones & every meet since then. (And that's the important part.) It begins with trying to be like Peter Pan... Get thee to a chiropractor, explain that you are an athlete with a big meet coming up, and beg for several adjustments & stim treatments. Look broken hearted and weepy at the prospect of not competing, and promise to do whatever the Dr. orders AFTER the competition. Dana
  • Lastly...I don't know why there are so many on the injured list. You'd think swimming has become a contact sport. :D Swimming isn't full contact? Maybe that's what I've been doing wrong ...
  • ..Please don't tell me you that have duct tape on your vehicle.... None on my vehicles (now ain't that something! On the Rez no less). But I do have a roll in my swim bag.

Stud, lower back pain -- not good for the Tarzan image. I highly recommend Forts' recommendation..... "the orthopod, chiropractor, ART therapist, PT guy, massage therapist..." especially the chiropractor and massage therapist. Take care of yourself and I hope your back to your swing'n/swimming self in no time. Jane
