I just read somewhere that Quick is headed to coach Auburn when the current coach (Marsh) leaves. Is this fact or fiction? Fact. Auburn announced it on their website.

Even if he could take the records from print he will never erase the fact that the swims were made and people were there to witness them. This coach has shown himself to be immature and undeserving of his place at that school.

According to SwimmingWorld, Kenney has been suspended and will not travel to Minneapolis next week: www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../14122.asp -- mel

Nice comments from both of you! Were it on KGO I probably would have heard it live.

I don't see any reason why his swimmers can't excel at their meet. Do all of you take your coach with you when you head to a meet? They should use the anger about this loser coach to fire them up. I hope they get some PB's.

I guess. In my opinion when you jump up on the blocks what counts is all the training that you have put in over the past few months, not the words that your coach might have muttered to you a few minutes beforehand. Having said that, I never swam in college or high school so I could be way off base. I guess we will see how they perform next week.

According to the Stanford website... he's suspended WITH pay. It will be interesting to follow this story and see where it leads. I do feel bad for the boys headed to NCAA's... but there are other coaches that can provide a lot of support to them. They're gonna be ok.
  • I swim with a guy who swam for Stanford and Kinney in the early '90's. Can't wait to get his take on it...But I actually think that he had a good relationship with Kinney and still keeps in touch with him. There also is a Nashville swimmer who is currently a senior there and he has improved tremendously while at Stanford. He should be a finalist next week in the 200, 500 and 1650...Not that I'm defending Kinney's actions-I think that it's awful but obviously his methods work for some...As far as recruiting goes, well Stanford is Stanford and the name as well as the opportunity to go to one of the best if not the best school in the nation will speak for itself...
  • Agreed. You don't need any distractions at this point in the season. Stanford has a history of peaking at Pac-10s as it is. They don't need this. Truly moronic and petty move by Skip Kenney. I agree. He seems like an ego maniac to me. Very selfish....not a good characterisitic for a coach. :shakeshead:
  • sfgate.com/.../article.cgi From the article, I quote: "When school resumed in September, the swimmer says, Kenney did his best to make McLean's life miserable. According to McLean, Kenney told him he had to work out at 4:30 a.m. with masters-class swimmers, instead of with the rest of the team later in the morning. He didn't allow McLean to attend some away meets and, for a time, had McLean train with butterflyers and sprinters rather than the other distance swimmers. 'His senior season basically was a year from hell,'' said McLean's mother, Diane, of Simsbury, Conn. "His training was clearly being altered not to suit his events'." Maybe we have a new Masters' swimmer in the fold! :laugh2: Now, 4:30 AM is a bad time to be awake, much less working out, but Masters swimmers are usually fun to be around. It can't have been good for him not to train with teammates, though. With Kenney suspended from coaching at NCAAs, I'm sure the team will suffer. Again, unfair to the athletes by punishing the coach.:frustrated:
