i have been reading a lot of the posts herein.... and it has occurred to me... (and this will surely betray my newbie-ness) there are an awful lot of abbreviations and terms used that leave me essentially having no clue what was said.... is there a book out there someplace "swimese for dummies" or the like? i speak several languages, sadly swimese is not yet among them.....
i can swim two miles comfortably, and have energy left over after to go run three miles... but decode the posts on this board?....
any reference/resource suggestions gladly accepted...
thanks.

jim
... and I think I need a swimming math lesson ... seriously, when I first started, coach would start talking about 300 this and 100 that and I would panic - ARGH! What is 300 divided by 25? times two? That would be how many laps/back-n-forths ... by then he was well down the list of things to do.
Here's a term that will stump if you are a beginner: swim means freestyle/stroke means anything other than freestyle! (Am I right on this?)
The yardage thing is not all that hard. 4 X 25 = 100, so a 300 would be 4 X 3 = 12 laps. It just takes getting used to. When they tell you to swim Freestyle, they usually mean Freestyle, or as the SwimStud would say, 'Front Crawl'. My coach says stroke of choice when we can swim what we want. Have fun, the learning the terms will come with time. The coach will probably not mind 'translating' for you until you get the hang of it.
