Hey everyone!
So, admittedly I am horrible at the whole hydration deal. I drink when I can pretty much, instead of carrying liquid with me constantly. It's mostly because I live in an apartment and to save money I buy powdered mix, so basically I am lazy and don't want to take the 3minutes it takes to make a new pitcher of ice tea...but thats not really the point. Actually, having said that...I'm also bringing up the 2nd part of my problem...I drink juices and ice teas and not water....I don't EVER drink soda, and I no longer drink alcohol so...I suppose i'm not as bad off as I could be...but none-the-less I know I need to drink water more consistently.
A few months ago I bought this cool water bottle from bed bath and beyond that holds "the reccomended 8 glasses of water" granted its very large and therefore cumbersome to carry around to and from classes. Although during winter training when I was driving to and from school instead of riding my bike I was using it on a daily basis and feeling much better.
That all being said, and sorry this is a long intro...today I was at Sports Authority and in the checkout line they had strategically placed what would appear to be a God-send. It's called HydraCoach. "the worlds first interactive water bottle. it calculates your personal hydration needs, tracks your real-time fluid consumption, paces you throughout the day and motivates you to acheive and maintain optimal hydrations."
So I haven't yet used it, or opened it...just got it a few hours ago...but I am hoping it can really help me reach my hyrdation goals. Has anyone ever heard of this product? Does anyone else have a problem getting the right amount of fluid intake daily?

Morgan,
I have no problem hydrating; I have been carrying a 16 ounce insulated thermos with a strap for over 14 years and it hasn't broken down. I don't even go get gas in the car or to the grocery store without it; everyone knows this about me; I am never without fluids---ever. I carry my water as routinely as a person carries a drivers license. And I don't follow any guidelines for hydrating because I drink more water than the normal person; I know what I need because I can feel it.
Morgan, what I do is buy a bottle of water - say Dasani - once it is empty I fill it up every time I walk past a water fountain - if I go to the restroom, I bring it and fill it up.....always keep it with you like Donna said and it will get to be a habit!!!! Water is the best for you and it's cheap too!!!!!:groovy:
It is easier to get too little than too much. This over-hydration hype is hype.(whatever that means). Of course, swimming isn't the most dehydrating activity out there (less effort because the heart is level with the rest of the body, less perspiration...and other stuff), but I think you mean over all hydration not just the sports stuff. You can always watch the color of your pee (urine, can't remember which term is not allowed). If it is clear, okay, if it is yellow, you're on the yellow light, if it is dark yellow or towards brown, you are in dire need of water. I am addicted to sparkling water. I don't drink that much Coke anymore, no beer, no alcohol, poor me. All that is left is some more expensive carbonated water...what a bore! Well, I could still drink non alcoholic beer, but who cares for that? Bottom line: if you get terribly thirsty without doing much work, watch your diet, you might be eating too salty. If you are not thirsty, then drink those eight or more glasses of water a day and try to monitor your peeing habits. Except for night time (when I am guilty of getting most of my water) or in coach class airplanes (I do the contrary, I go into the plane very dehydrated, so I won't have to go), you want to be in a constant need to go. Take care, billy fanstone
I, Know they say drink 8 glasses of water a day. I am 5 ft 6 inches. I can tell you, there is no way I can drink that much water in one day. At 125 LBS. I would probaly drown. I generaly swim 3 miles non stop, without drinking any water. When I work out in the gym I might drink a half a quart of water. my work is contiunous close to none stop.DOM IN AZ.:) :laugh2:
yeah I'm only 5'3"...but I weigh a considerable amount more than 125lbs :). My biggest concern I suppose is not necessarily drinking more than I do now, but drinking more water instead of juice and so such. I bring a water bottle to practice, but generally don't drink more than maybe 5sips during a 6,000yard workout...that can't be good.
Well they say good things come in small packeges . Wow at 6000 yards or meters , I would probaly need. water. But that is impresive. :drink: :groovy: DOM, in AZ.
