I thought I'd try an experiment here. I propose that anyone of any swimming level can use this thread (or not) when, whether in a small way or earthshaking manner you've done something in the pool that you're proud and/or pleased by. Anyone is welcome to add encouraging comments (or not) or ask for more info., but please no grandstanding or feuding.
Okay- I'll go first (and I'm just as hesitant as anyone else). Context: last few months hellish: collapse of my dream business, death in family, huge money troubles etc. result months out of water & exercise & 30lb gain. Further, I just went back over the last 10 yrs, averaged 1 meet a year, no more than 4 months training in any one year. So- been back in water 4 weeks, 2-3 times a week and mostly feeling like chopped liver. Monday night coach say we're going to do dive 25's (meters) from blocks, starter's instructions. Now I haven't done this in years 'cause I have a very bad neck- but I've been frustrated so...did all 3 breastroke 16.3, 15.5, 16.2 which tells me I've still got prospects to go fast again! I am pleased.

Attaboy to all of you! This is the kind of thread that made me join the forum. So many people sharing their accomplishments (and some frustrations) with poeple who understand what we put our bodies through every practice, and every meet. Seeing so much positive reinforcement is fantastic! :applaud: ATTABOY forum folks (FF?)!
Now to brag a little to people who understand... I signed up to swim the "Sprint Pentathalon" at our meet last Sunday. My goal was to swim a few NQTs and consider making the trip out to Federal Way in May. Thought if I had a few PB swims, I could qualify in two events (50 free & 50 back, 50 fly a long-shot). I wound up having PB swims in ALL my events, and swam NQTs in 4 of 5!
Dropped a combined total of roughly 7 seconds from my total pentathalon last year, including 3 seconds from my 100 IM (and I had the WORST back to *** transition turn EVER!:( ). I missed the NQT in the 50 fly by only .02 seconds, but the swim felt good.
When I got home, my husband says, "I guess that's good, huh?" We've been married 16 years and I've never swam this fast--EVER-- and the best he can do is "I guess that's good?"
Thank you all for being here to support other swimmers. It feels great just to have a place to talk to people who get it!
Dana
Dana- way to perform in the crunch! People who are not involved in a sport like ours find it hard to appreciate how little bits of time difference can make such a huge impact on us. Several times while public swimming I've had this sort of conversation:
"Say, you're pretty good!"
(myself) "Thank you, I work hard at it."
"So how close would you be to that Phelps (or whatever name currently in public eye) character?"
(myself) "Well, if we were doing 100m, which is 4 lengths, I'd probably be almost a whole length behind him."
"I guess you're not so good after all..."
(myself) "I guess not."

I have had similar conversations Peter....only I usually slightly embellish the ending a bit perhaps....something more like ....I don't know.... in a 200 Phelps would probably beat me by about a half a body length or so....LOL!!
Congrats on your awesome swims in your sprint pentathalon imspoiled! Also Congrats to everyone else here as well! Nice workout swims Fort! Glad to hear you are working out a lot more now Beth! I've done 2 spin classes already this week and I'm doing another one on Saturday....I also plan on getting in a couple of more swims before the weekend is over (somewhere between 1500- 2500 meters each I'm hoping)....I'm starting off kind of slow on the swimming right now (trying to gradually ease my way back into the groove again)....Maybe I will do a few descending 50's in my next swim session as well?

More of a mental accomplishment tonight.
Been doing the 0-1650 free in 6 weeks thing, which felt really difficult the first 2 weeks for some odd reason. I completed week 4 last Friday and tonight I just did 1800 straight, 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Not that major but I've never consciously done a mile of Front Crawl straight so it was a mental victory.
:drink:
Attaboy Rich!!! That's a huge accomplishment. Keep up the good work.
I'm excited and very proud of my accomplishment today! After being out of the water for 2 and a half months due to shoulder/neck/back problems, my daughter's surgery and my mom's fall, I've been back in the water for 4 weeks now!! I go every other day....not ready to push my luck going every day yet!
Today I actually did 3500yards! That's the most I've done since November! I'm exhausted but satisfied! We did a tough set...
100 fast for time on 1:30
100 easy on 3:00
200 fast for time on 3:00
200 easy on 4:30
300 fast for time on 4:30
300 easy on 6:00
400 fast for time on 6:00
400 easy
We got lots of rest but that last 400 was tough for me....I'm a sprinter and I'm out of shape! I'm working on it though!
I'm swimming in a meet next weekend!! The thing that I'M SOO EXCITED ABOUT is that my 18 year old daughter is going to swim the meet with me!!!! I CAN'T WAIT! I've waited for this day to come and hoped she would want to compete in Masters when she got old enough! It is going to be GREAT! :D
Perhaps coaches will be lined up at your door, Rich. Good effort.
LOL Well if they're willing to work for food :)
Thanks Peter. i'm expecting to here a similar report from, my training partner, ~Wren~, shortly...c'mon ~Wren~ hit that pool!

today i swam my mile (non-stop as always), but today for the first time, i used flip turns all the way!!!!! somebody was kind enough to teach me the flip turn at the pool last night.... he left before i could get his name.
thanks to the mystery teacher.
