Ready..VENT! What keeps you from getting to the pool?

Ready..VENT! What keeps you from getting to the pool? Me first. I am so bummed. Traffic was all jammed up because of an accident and oil spill on the expressway. It took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to get home. That's a 10 mile drive. I could have run faster if they let me take a straight line on the highway. I sat and peeled and ate an orange without even creeping forward. And not one of those tangelos or zipper peel kinds. Thank goodness I had snacks. I certainly didn't think to visit the ladies room before I left work. Normally even in the worst of traffic it's less than an hour. I couldn't even get off the highway because all the exits were jammed because the city was blocked up because people couldn't get on the highway. And I thought traffic was going to be wasy because of school vacation week. I work full time and go to school part time. That ate up all my swimming time for the evening. I went to work and left work early to get in some good pool time tonight. Blech. Your turn...NEXT!

Fort: I have only the one three YO. She screams when we drop her off. Sometimes she'll set herself down. But, then she screams when we come to get her. I've talked to other parents and they all say the same thing, that two's fun, three's are terrible, and at four they get fun again. My wife and I aren't planning on any more kids so this is our only pass though this mess.

Me neither. We're all big klutzes here. I think only SwimStud will! out turned feet and knees is good for breaststroke and ballet :dunno:
  • Hmm lets see what keeps me from the pool... well when I am swimming on my own (no team commitment) I really have to go in the morning...set my alarm and just do it...if I tell myself I'll go at night...I won't. Just based on the past 2 days, I have also realized that I need to do my weightroom and land cardio stuff in the morning too...this means that while school is still in sessions M and W's I have to get up at 5am and be at the pool by 530am--although if I could hack getting up at 445 and being to the pool by 505ish that would be ideal... T-Th-F I need to leave around 615am and be at the pool by 645. But being a college student, these early mornings...sometimes i just can't do it. So my own laziness and procrastination I suppose is what keeps me from the pool. Additionally, on the weekends I have no where to swim if I go home, and often times the weekends are super hectic and we have rabbit shows or some other activity or event to attend. I am so used to getting up by 4:45-5 that I no longer need an alarm, crazy.

Bill, My child-raising experience tops out at 20 months, so sorry no additional info on 3 year-old separation anxiety. We had it worst here from 15-18 months, then seemed to get better around 19 months. I was fearing that there might be another peak in the future though. Arghhhhh... Very cute kiddie Carrie

  • Anyhoo, my 5 mile run this morning seemed like a warm up. Off to try this "Ultimate Conditioning" class - I'll be surprised if this is actually the case. There's no exercise like swimming! Although running is not as horrible as I once thought! Blech for eye infections, (S)he-Man! I've been on acular for a week ... I haven't resorted to vigamox yet. Can you never, ever swim? Or are you just cutting way back? I think you'll get hooked on running. It's addictive too. Just don't ramp it up too fast. Will there be any tris or road races in your future? :groovy: Feisty: I had this separation thing with my kids. It's partially why there was no swimming for so many years. It's really hard to work out regularly with young kids ... For awhile, I went to the gym at 9:00 pm when they were asleep.

My wife and I aren't planning on any more kids so this is our only pass though this mess. I have a three-year old too. He is also near the top of the list of things that keep me from the pool (besides the distance that I mentioned earlier). When he throws himself around my leg and cries "Mommy, NOOOOOOO, don't go swimming. Don't leave," it makes it really hard to drag myself out the door. :shakeshead:
