Ready..VENT! What keeps you from getting to the pool?
Me first.
I am so bummed. Traffic was all jammed up because of an accident and oil spill on the expressway. It took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to get home. That's a 10 mile drive. I could have run faster if they let me take a straight line on the highway. I sat and peeled and ate an orange without even creeping forward. And not one of those tangelos or zipper peel kinds. Thank goodness I had snacks. I certainly didn't think to visit the ladies room before I left work. Normally even in the worst of traffic it's less than an hour. I couldn't even get off the highway because all the exits were jammed because the city was blocked up because people couldn't get on the highway.
And I thought traffic was going to be wasy because of school vacation week.
I work full time and go to school part time. That ate up all my swimming time for the evening. I went to work and left work early to get in some good pool time tonight.
Blech.
Your turn...NEXT!
I've been away from the pool, gym, work, etc. for the past 2 weeks with a bit of pneumonia. Originally thought it was just the flu, but the doc said "nope, you've got crud in your lung." I actually went swimming yesterday and took it easy with 1000yds. I'm told it may take a while to get my strength back. Unfortunately, I'm not a patient person :frustrated:
we'll NEVER have any rugrat ballarinas in our household! :joker:
Me neither. We're all big klutzes here. I think only SwimStud will!
Bill:
This is only my personal experience, but
For me, the separation anxiety started at 3 when they went to pre-school. All three of mine were just awful. Even my now outgoing FEARLESS middle child was a disaster, clinging to my leg, sobbing her eyes out, ratcheting up the omnipresent mommy (or daddy)-guilt for going to work. (Although she started being a huge pain at 17 months. I literally remember the day.)
Are your kids exhibiting this naughtiness in school or everywhere? It eventually goes away in school, although it can take a few weeks. Othewise, I would advise getting ready for the long haul. The threes were not my very favorite time. But I don't think the teenage years are always a bowl of cherries either. That's when the self-absorbed ingratitude stage kicks in. Enjoy 4-11! (Wait, I remember a sassy spell at age 9 for my two older ones.)
Bill,
My child-raising experience tops out at 20 months, so sorry no additional info on 3 year-old separation anxiety. We had it worst here from 15-18 months, then seemed to get better around 19 months. I was fearing that there might be another peak in the future though. Arghhhhh...
I must be a bad mother, my kids loved the playroom and never had problems! Guess they couldn't wait to get away.
What keeps me from the pool? Weather, work, kids activities and volunteer work.
Kristina,
That sounds aweful. But at least it's good that there is an "easy" solution.
I don't want to make light of your situation...
But I have a suggestion...
You could become a mighty fierce noodler! Unless being in the pool area and some occassional splashing aggrevates the condition as well, which it sounds like it might. Although, we are all aware that noodlers defend against any and all splashing in the pool. The group could form a huddle around you and provide an anit-splash barrier.
But in all seriousness you could bring some dignity to water aerobics if you need some anti-gravity activity.
Humor is GREATLY appreciated! :laugh2: :laugh2:
I WISH - but EVEN noodling is out for a bit. I have to stay out of the environment totally. We'll see in time!
Took an "Ultimate Conditioning" class today which was basically a step class - and based on my graceLESSness and lack of coordination, I'm afraid that noodling is above my skill level. But I've found something I need to work on - COORDINATION! I laugh b/c my husband is a huge klutz around the house - always stubbing his feet and toes and knocking things down. I think his klutziness is rubbing off on me. One thing is for sure - we'll NEVER have any rugrat ballarinas in our household! :joker:
traffic, traveling husband, kids, sinus infections, shoulder pain.
Michelle:
I feel your traffic pain here in the metro DC area. It's gotten so bad I'm scared to walk out the door during certain hours. It can take me 50 minutes to get to practice during the week ... right down the road a few miles.
Muppet:
I see you are leaving our area and flying to Chicago just to avoid traffic. That's pretty desperate. Tell FlyQueen to quit teaching and come to nationals with us.
The main reason is I have about $10 to my name right now so unless I can pay for the meet, the hotel, the plane ticket, and the food I'd while there on less than that I can't make ... I will be in Austin NO MATTER WHAT!

Just go easy. Under-do it for a week or two. Don't weaken yourself by trying to get it all in one. I doubt you'll have a long wait, anyhow.
This fall, the issue was separation anxiety. The childcare pages you if your kiddo screams for 10-20 minutes and they can't get her to calm down. I used to get called out all the time right after warmup. quote]
Feisty/Fort:
What age was seperation bad? I have a three YO and she just started this seperation thing. The two's were great. The Three's are terrible. I'm just curious if its the same for you.
Thanx,
Bill
HEALTH! I drop the toddler off at the fitness center childcare while I swim, so she and I have to be simultaneously healthy in order for me to swim. This has not been so easy this winter!

I used to get called out all the time right after warmup. Now that Meggie (the toddler) has discovered the wonders of Elmo, the childcare pops in an Elmo video and all is well! God Bless Elmo!!!
