Ready..VENT! What keeps you from getting to the pool?
Me first.
I am so bummed. Traffic was all jammed up because of an accident and oil spill on the expressway. It took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to get home. That's a 10 mile drive. I could have run faster if they let me take a straight line on the highway. I sat and peeled and ate an orange without even creeping forward. And not one of those tangelos or zipper peel kinds. Thank goodness I had snacks. I certainly didn't think to visit the ladies room before I left work. Normally even in the worst of traffic it's less than an hour. I couldn't even get off the highway because all the exits were jammed because the city was blocked up because people couldn't get on the highway.
And I thought traffic was going to be wasy because of school vacation week.
I work full time and go to school part time. That ate up all my swimming time for the evening. I went to work and left work early to get in some good pool time tonight.
Blech.
Your turn...NEXT!
 I have no will power. I was all set to go to the pool after work when a friend calls and says we need to go for pizza and beer at a bar down the street from my office. Of course I couldn't refuse.
I skipped yesterday b/c of my latest sinus infection. I had been feeling better than I was on Sunday and Saturday, but I figured since I had just gotten drugs, I'd give them 2 days to kick in before I tried to undo their power by getting into the pool again. I'll be back in the water on Wednesday. Then off to Chicacgo for the FlyQueen's Thursday Set of Death!
:dedhorse:
I live about 40 minutes from the pool. While that may not seem like that far, workout is only 55 minutes. So I have to leave at 5:15 pm and I don't get home until around 8:00 for a total of only about 2500 meters. Some days, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. :dunno:
traffic, traveling husband, kids, sinus infections, shoulder pain.
Michelle:
I feel your traffic pain here in the metro DC area. It's gotten so bad I'm scared to walk out the door during certain hours. It can take me 50 minutes to get to practice during the week ... right down the road a few miles.
Muppet:
I see you are leaving our area and flying to Chicago just to avoid traffic. That's pretty desperate. Tell FlyQueen to quit teaching and come to nationals with us.
JUst got over an illness. I was coughing and had fever, but the Doc said it was viral so I had to wait it out almost 2 weeks.. Open turns are bummers, but I need to cough on many turns and I feel sluggish in the water. Just got a cortisone (sp) shot for my shoulder today. I only started to have shoulder problems the last 2 years. Been swimming Masters for over 25 years. She suggested I not swim tomorrow. Fortunately it will be warm and sunny Wed so I can ride my bike in Cherry Creek State Park. Snow is expected for the weekend in the mountains, so I will be skiing until next week. Signed up for 50' s at our next meet, hopefully I will be back to my distance events in April. Thank goodness Long Course Nationals are not until August and I will be in a new age group. I feel like my gills have dried out!
Jeff did you look at the neti pot?
Yeah I looked at it. Sounds pretty nasty. I am on drugs that are working ok - and then going to a nose guy who is going to do an endoscopy up there in a couple weeks. I figure we let the experts figure out what is going on before I start my own mythbusters lab.

Yeah, I wanted to avoid DC's winged slabs of ice during my commute. Man those things swoop down from nowhere and do a number on a windshield!
As for the queen o fly... Ill see what I can do. I packed my fake diploma and blow-up-teacher, so that should cover her main reasons for not coming.

Snow keeps me from the pool. Well namely 1 inch of snow when the Y decides to call an early 5pm close at around noon...yeah I love that!
Kristina,
That sounds aweful. But at least it's good that there is an "easy" solution.
I don't want to make light of your situation...
But I have a suggestion...
You could become a mighty fierce noodler! Unless being in the pool area and some occassional splashing aggrevates the condition as well, which it sounds like it might. Although, we are all aware that noodlers defend against any and all splashing in the pool. The group could form a huddle around you and provide an anit-splash barrier.
But in all seriousness you could bring some dignity to water aerobics if you need some anti-gravity activity.
Kristina,
This makes me very sad!! :( I'm going to miss you soo much!! I know you love swimming and I'm so very sorry to hear you may have to give it up.
I have been out of the water for almost two months due to my shoulder/neck/back injury. I had no idea you were not swimming with the team. I worked out at noon (1 hour) with the team yesterday for the first time in almost 2 months! I'm going to try to build up to start the morning practices (1 1/2 hours) within a month or two. I just assumed you would be there in the morning when I came back!
You are such a great athlete that I'm sure whatever you do, you will be successful. Maybe we could do a triathlon relay together? We just need a biker. (Kris?)
I'm missing you!
