Seeing as Nationals are fast approaching (eek!), I thought I'd post this now to give time for debate, planning, and change to make sure we can see some action. ;)
Here's what I was thinking:
There's a Red Robin (though there are plenty of other choices also) fairly close to the pool (by the mall...about 5 milesish..maybe). I would LOVE to meet everybody from these forums so I was thinking Friday or Saturday night we should have a little dinner and drinks soiree. The formally organized USMS social is Saturday night.
So...that's my thought. Let's hash out some details and make it happen!!
:drink: :groovy: :woot:
Yeah, the Mariners are home the duration of Nationals. They play the Angels through Thursday night, then the Padres. All 7:05 starts except for Sunday. Safeco field is probably 20 miles or so from the pool.
The stadium is pretty far away from the pool. It is in the south part of Seattle, but it's still about a 30-40 minute drive.....maybe longer since it's game day.
I'll have a car if anybody needs a ride, I could probably carry a few people if this is really something that everyone wanted to do.
Sounds good! I'm heading to bed- I'm tired. (insert smiley with nightcap on- of course the nightcap has the optional holes for goggles!) :p
Hey, post 700! That's about how old I feel right now ;)
Congrats on number 700! Sleep tight!!
I guess now we'll just wait for others to chime in on what they think. Baseball and dinner? Just dinner? Dinner and a movie? Dinner and everybody buys me something? Dinner and drunken relays?
Keep the ideas coming!!!
So I looked at the Salty's website. Their pretty expensive ($20-30 for entrees), but they do large groups. So we could book the private party room if there was going to be a lot of people, that would be the upside.
I just thought of another restaurant too....REALLY good mexican in Auburn (though it might have been Federal Way). I think it was called Blue Sea or something...Blue something. Anybody know for sure? That might be another option.....It's a fairly small local business.
Kirk or Peter- do Mariners' games usually sell out? Or can we just get tickets at the game?
I don't care if we miss the first pitch (although it's fun to see)...
I'll check with my teammates to see if they are interested, too. I know quite a few went last time we were there- so it may have lost something! But I'm definitely up for Friday night.
I know at Pac Bell Park in SF you can certainly get the dog and the beer and the garlic fries (YUM!!!!), however they do have healthy stuff too. Is Safeco the same?
Seagurl, I think we should start finding out who wants to go and what hotel, if any, are they staying at... this will be a lot of fun (I fear!!!) :p
I have had dinner at Salty's in Portand on the Columbia River, wonderful food, yes, a little pricey but with a sophisticated air that...wait, what am I thinking, totally wasted on ravenous, already tired masters swimmers. Try the ballpark, wonderful food available there and if the group acts goofy enough, you can be on tv!

Good point...the jumbotron rocks!
I'm liking this ball game idea. What time does the meet end though? If the game starts at 7 then we'd have to leave Federal Way around 5-ish...if we wanted to be there in time for the opening pitch, we can be late I guess. Also, how about tickets? Are we gonna buy 'em online or wait til the stadium so we can guarantee seats together? We could have on person buy 'em online and then just pay them back at the meet?
Kyra,
I'm all over the baseball game too! I'd love to see that stadium. I just like baseball, I don't really care who's playing. Although I grew up with the SF Giants and freezing, windy Candlestick Park (a tangent in and of itself!)
When LC Nats were in Minn in the mid-90s we went to a Twins game- a lot of fun.
Perhaps we could get dinner and then go to the game? Of course I wouldn't want to invite ourselves... however teenagers could come too!
Sounds great! :wiggle:
Definately! Safeco has some healthy options, but with garlic fries and chocolate covered strawberries, why would you want too?!?!
For sure invite teammates! The more the merrier! This early in the season, I don't think they'd sell out. Espeically since they're not playing huge rival teams. If we get a lot of people going though, we might be able to get a group discount. Maybe we could pool money and get a box. ;)
I'm definatley all for finding a non-chain...I'll talk to my brother and see what I can learn (he lived there for a while and his wife is from Burien).
But if there's a Mariners game I vote we do that instead! :)
Lynnwood is way closer to me, but definately not the pool.
I cant' think of any places inbetween Federal Way and Seattle either...I know some killer breakfast places in Burien though.....
