Okay, so we all like each other. Well, mostly. S-o-o-o, it does stand to reason that each and every one of has an outstanding DVD to recommend for me ( & the rest of the forums gang) to rent for viewing over the holidays: Two categories: 1.) Seasonal DVD that we must watch 2.) Non-seasonal any genre DVD that will make our holiday viewing. Thanking you in advance.

  • As for LOTR...you leave the furry footed halfings alone, and while we're at it, we don't need soppy love scenes and kissing wrecking perfectly good magic/fantasy movies... Look, Tolkien had no women in his books and they had to put some in the movies or piss off half of the US. And that's exactly what the contrived scenes between Arwen and Aragorn are: sappy. Yuck. I like the perfectly good action movie (I did just see Casino Royale and The Departed), but not the love/dreamy/evenstar-carrying stuff. Give me Eowyn disguised as a man wielding a sword anyday ... Can't you tell from my new avatar? A "falling out over Braveheart?!" Tell me it ain't so. We just discussed having curry and lager in London ... It's an action movie, not a historical period piece. And what, are you a British history buff in addition to loving Wilkie? I think Robert the Bruce ended up doing fairly well in reality. My understanding is that the depiction of Edward II was also likely accurate. OK, here's a good question for you, Mr. British Historian sitting in a hot tub making us all jealous: Did Richard III kill the two princes or not? Only about 10 books written on the subject... (I've read them all, so you can't BS me.) Remember Heny VIII? What's the slogan for his 6 wives? No googling! I happen to be a bit of British history buff, and don't even get me started on the Roman Republic/Empire. Everyone should rent the I Claudius series of videos! Derek Jacobi is awesome! P.S. As to swimming, Caped Dude is right. Swimming Upstream is good. Judy Davis is great. And there are a lot of old fashioned backstroke swimming scenes.
