Is Swimming Eating Its PANTS?

I swear.. i just got a new suit less then 3 weeks ago and it is deteriorating faster then an SNL sketch. What to do?! :o
  • I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one doubling up the polyester suit because of "coverage" issues. I didn't realize there was a problem the first time I wore the suit until I stood up after a longer set and half-flashed the poor kid lifeguard. Probably scarred him for life. Doubling solves the problem, which is good, because I think this suit might outlast my car. Yikes! Should I consider myself forewarned here? My new suit is a little higher cut than I'm used to wearing, but not overly so. However, if there's ... um ... shifting... that could be a problem. Should I be hoping that everyone at the pool is a little nearsighted, caffeine deprived or otherwise perceptually hindered? ;)

My Speedo Endurance suit doesn't provide good, um, "coverage" with the differences in elasticity so it tends to ride up and shift out of place. I can't get a size larger as this is as big as they are made. It is doing an excellent job not wearing out but has a slightly scratchy feel. It provides a good compliment to a comfy but worn-out Speedo lycra suit of the same size and cut so I don't have any "fallout" as the lycra provides more coverage. The two suits do provide extra compression, decreasing the "wobble" factor which kills your speed. Layering the suits tears up the lycra suit really fast, leaving lycra crumbs on me, yuck. I guess the lycra suit lasts about a month this way before I give up on it and trash it. Oh yeah - I would never wear the lycra suit in the hottub but the endurance suit is OK. Really, this is on topic.

I have been using the same Speedo Endurance Jammer for about a year now. Sometimes I rinse it and sometimes I don't. As far as I know, it is not showing through anywhere. Nobody has commented anyhow. Well that brings up another question. How does one politely point out that someone's suit is worn? There's a woman at our pool with a light blue suit that I think she's had a long time - a REALLY long time.

I had bought my first pair of jammers in N. Y. They were lycra. In about 4 or 5 swims they were down around my ankles. Then a friend of mine, told me about, ENDURANCE and POLYESTER . I love them. DOM in AZ.:dedhorse: :joker:

Polyester suits are AMAZING! I got one a little over a year ago - one of the slightly cheaper brands. I've worn it 3-5x/wk since then. It was perfectly fine until about a month ago when they messed up the chemicals at the pool. The next time I put it on, the lining ripped, but since it's black, I've still been able to wear it. I ordered a new one a few days ago, and I'm waiting impatiently for its arrival.

    I don't see where this...shifting thing is a problem.

It's made me work on breathing bilaterally to even out the twisting. I don't see where this...shifting thing is a problem. Very funny, Mr. Cruise, very funny.
  • The polyester suits are so nice for longevity, but yeah, the fit is tough. They're just not forgiving (for putting on) and then compressing (once on) like a lycra suit would be. All the brands seem to fit a little differently and your lycra suit size will not necessarily be the same size for the polyester. Best advice is make sure you try on polyester suits!! I've been a subscriber to the 'two old suits equals one new suit' philosophy. But I draw the line when the lycra suit disintegrates and leaves those lycra pills all over your body. Ewwwww. And yeah, Wren, I haven't yet figured out the polite way to let someone know their suit is shot. I teach water aerobics (yes, with noodles even!!) and the dead-suit effect is quite common. Especially the no-butt look (I compulsively check the opacity of my suits because of this.) Would welcome any ideas from the forum...
