Elite Masters consider entering 2007 American SC Championships in Austin, TX

the 2007 American Short Course Championships are taking place in Austin, Texas from Thursday February 22 through Saturday February 24, 2007 it's a Prelims / Finals meet the QT's tend to be a little slower than junior national times plus on Sunday February 25 there will be a Long Course Time Trial here's the 2007 meet info www.utexas.edu/.../2007AmericanSCmeetannouncement.pdf here's the 2006 meet results www.utexas.edu/.../ The Texas Swim center is one of the fastest pools in the US So I'd like to go on record and invite elite masters swimmers who 1) are USS registered, and 2) have the qualifying times and can prove their times to consider attending this meet, it's going to be fun and fast. Last year they allowed lifetime best times plus they tend to swim 4, 5 or six heats in the finals more of the shorter events than longer ones so some masters might earn the chance to swim events again. Details are not up yet but they are likely to be found at: www.utexas.edu/.../HostedMeets.htm please think about it and let me know if you're coming especially former Longhorns like Jeff Commings and John Smith. It could be a great way to tune up for 2008 USMS nats in austin Plus it will be a fun meet to watch consider yourself invited and now you have plenty of time to prepare, plan and make travel arrangements. It's gonna be a good un. spread the word. your friend, Ande
  • Ande, As much as I enjoy making excuses to go to Austin, I don't know that I can get it together for the meet by February. You must have bad technique.

Man, I want to go so BAD! Haven't been to a meet in almost 3 years, not even sure if I can call myself "elite". We are heading to Deer Valley to ski the Monday after the meet, might be hard to get a hall pass. With a 2, 5 and 7 year old hard to get a hall pass for anything unless it is at 5:30 am when everyone else is asleep. I will mark the dates down, and try to slowly sell my wife on this one...

Ande, I am fat, out of shape and my shoulders are killing me. As much as I enjoy making excuses to go to Austin, I don't know that I can get it together for the meet by February. Thanks anyway. John Smith

Woa Nelly! That is a bit over my head! However, you've inspired me to try and go a :58.0 in the 100 yd fly by the end of Feb (at a masters meet).
  • Sorry, Ande. I'm only doing one shave meet in 2007, and that meet will be masters nationals in Seattle. Also, I'm taking time off after the shave meet I had three weeks ago. I'm not planning on getting back into the water until the new year. That's not enough time to get into the right shape. Plus, I don't want to embarrass the little ones by having an "old guy" swim faster than them. And I don't want to be embarrassed by all the little ones swiming faster than me. I'm sure people like Dennis Baker would love to go to a meet like this. But, it's short course and he can't qualify for Trials at this meet. (Just kidding, Dennis.) I am going to be in Austin at masters nationals in 2008. Hope to see you there.
