has anyone gotten under 60 sec (100yd) as a new swimmer?

Just curious how many have started swimming over the age 40 and been able to get under 60 sec in the 100. If so, just how fast and after how many years training? How about the 200 yd? Looking to see what can be done for inspiration!!

  • YES!!!!!!! It took 3 1/2 years of hard work but I finally got under a minute today. It sure isn't easy! This forum has helped a great deal. Went 59.3 today, so this is my progression so far: date 100 free 4/2/2006 1:10.24 4/30/2006 1:08.76 1/21/2007 1:04.00 3/11/2007 1:03.22 4/28/2007 1:01.75 11/4/2007 1:03.98 2/9/2008 1:02.52 4/5/2008 1:01.04 10/26/2008 59.3 Congrats! That is a great time and you have gotten there in a fairly short period of time. I suspect you will continue to drop your time. I have coached masters swimmers that just started doing competitive swimming after age 40. I have seen several be pretty serious contenders, so don't ever doubt you can be among the best!
