Why do most masters swimmers hate breaststroke?

The latest threads clearly reveal that the vast majority of masters swimmers wish breaststroke did not exist (except Peter, Allen, Aquafeisty, and a possiblely experimenting SCY freestyler). So why does everyone hate breaststroke? I'll go first. I hated it when I was young because it was too slow, I never learned how to do it right, and I never learned the wave action because it didn't exist when I was young. I can't seem do get the timing right now. And I have no excuse. Unlike my shoulder, my knees are fully intact. Not sure I have the gumption or time to put in 100,000 yards for a complete overhaul on a stroke I don't swim in meets. But I'd like to be able to fake it in IMs ...
  • Somehow I see an adults only section to this forum being added. We are supposed to be MASTERS swimmers. :laugh2:
  • I am a Master Swimmer who loves Breaststroke. It is the only stroke where you can swim and rest at the same time! :)
  • I always thought that Butterfly was the stroke that everyone hated and that you had to be born with a natural ability to do it. :p

What's with the pecs? Real breaststrokers have great big calves, like diamonds:bow: Only pro bicyclists have as great a leg muscle group as breaststrokers.

  • Really how many adults are there on this forum???:joker: :joker: You gotta act and think young to feel and stay young. I was worried for awhile that one certain adult had left us, but I see he's back in screamingly funny childlike form. :joker: :joker:   Warren: You looked like a natual backstroker in that video you showed us of your 50 free. How can you be so tall and not be at least decent at back? I thought tall breaststrokers were very yesterday. Islandsox: I'm not sure about that "born to be thing" either. I started out a backstroker, switched to fly/IM, now back to backstroke. ... used to swim everything, now I just sprint. All over the map. The only constant is no breaststroke. And I was also not born to butterstruggle. Once the fly stroke falls apart, swimming fly is about as helpful as getting drunk at practice. What if there is a mind - body disconnect? You are one thing but you want to be something else?

Now you guys don't want me to start bragging about my legs... Nope. I'll brag about mine instead. And I don't even engage in this non-stroke. But those babies are like diamonds.

Nope. I'll brag about mine instead. And I don't even engage in this non-stroke. But those babies are like diamonds. Ok let's just recall that I danced through my teens, then hit the gym, then got into Football (soccer for the unenlightened). Throughout all of my various activities and seasonal weight swings..I've alwasy considered my calves to be quite, well, awesome. I could be a sock model! /flexcalves. I know what my avatar is going to be next week now! :joker:

Has this become a thread to describe you most attractive body parts?
