You are the Rules Dictator

Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?

I still don't know why we shouldn't be able to do some sort of flip turn on brst/fly. If touching simultaneously with the feet and the arms don't break their unison movement, I think it would be a gas. Contrary to Jeff, I think (other than those who would ban *** & Canadians- even better, I suppose to ban Canadian breastrokers) most of the posts have been at least semi-serious and accomplishing a little 'free flow' of ideas. You never know, one of them might catch on. I wait to hear what the yin/yang Smith's take on height penalties would be.

Peter I have met you and standing on your tip toes you are well over 6 feet. Also saw you standing on a milk crate to reach one of the top shelves and you looked 6 feet 8 inches tall.
  • One more thing: We need a 100 and 200 fly-fin race where fly would be swum with fins. Then fin addicts would be placated, shoulders would be saved and there would be greater participation in these events in the 40 & Over age groups. I might even retract my prior statement that I would never do a 200 fly. :groovy:
  • Leo, I personally don't have any difficulty judging the BS turn, but I see inconsistancies in how other officials call it. But as Alison said, it's difficult watch several lanes at once and out here it is sometimes necessary to watch 3-4 lanes. Even under the best conditions it's usually 2 lanes.
  • 200 fly, even with fins, is not something I would do. Maybe a 100. The 200 is my 14 yr old son's favorite and he gives me crap 'cause I won't do it. But I don't mind. I can still take him in a 100 free.
  • And you WILL swim open water when I'm the dictator.-LBJ I'm with Jansen on this. The rule should be a 1-1 ratio of pool meets to open water races. Open water is the way to go, a nice balance to the endless laps. Never shall late bloomin' be mentioned again.

By a strange coincidence I am 6'1". I understand George, why I looked taller: booksellers (now 'ex') can look immense in their natural habitat. I would also be generous to those who take such offense at *** kick being allowed in fly: as long as it is 'grandfathered' to gradually be phased out so all 55 and over as of 2007 would still be allowed to do it...that would be fine.

I would allow underwater dolphin kicking off starts and turns as far as u want to go underwater, like the ole days when I swam butterfly :-)
  • Fortress I agree with you about the backstroke turn. As a S&T judge I dislike the BS most because of the turn. There seems to be no consistancy in calling the continuous motion infraction.

    1) Death to the breaststroke. 2) No more fighting about TI or late/early bloomers. This is a death offense. 3) No more fastskins and the like. Everyone swims nude at masters meets. This is purely for the amusement value. 4) No pool races. Everyone swims open water and the shortest race is 1 mile. Prizes are large-ticket items. Male winner of the 50-54 age group gets a date with Alexandra Paul. -LBJ
