Simple. You have absolute power to change any technique rules, start/finish rules, age up rules, sky is the limit as long as the rules pertain to swimming. What would you change and why?

Lindsay: using the words 'pure' and 'butterfly' in the same statement is just plain bad taste.

So what your saying is that the phrase "Pure Butterfly" is an
oxy-aquageek...I mean oxymoron then? (sorry slip of the tongue I guess..LOL!!).
If I was your coach Cruise, I would make you swim a set of 20 x 200 butterfies on the 3:00 for those remarks!! Crazy Canucks!!

How many fly events are there over 200. I have never seen any races over 200m.
How many of you would enter a 400 fly, an 800 fly or a 1500 fly. I never entered anything over a 100 except someone entered me in a 200 once by mistake.
Leslie- 'butterfrog' is the problem word, an egregious misuse of the language, by those butterfliers jealous of the innate radiance of the beautiful stroke. They should be grateful that we offer to share a bit of our precious stroke to mitigate the unspeakable horror that is butterfly.
Peter:
I'm just jealous that you can do it and not be tired. I must confess that I don't think I've ever seen the true radiant butterfrog in action. Can you think of a better, more elegant word than "butterfrog" that captures the pure essence of this refined endeavor?
Actually Lindsay FINA only outlawed the breaststroke kick in the butterfly for non-masters swimming a couple of years ago (4-6 years.) Ever since the split of the butterfly from the breaststroke, the FINA rules simply stated that you had to kick symetrically and that was it. So the breaststroke kick met the requirement. When they changed it, they caused a big problem for masters because the FINA masters rules are listed as exceptions and additions to the "kids" rules and the changes were made when there was no mechanism to change the Masters rules. We therefore did not have an exception and our rules automatically changed. The FINA "rules dictator" granted an exception until the next FINA Masters congress was held so the disruption was held to a minimum.
So in this context, we should revisit your statement and go back to the rules as they were most recently in place - oops they look like Masters rules today:) .

Leslie- I can do 200 fly meters with a *** kick & break 3 minutes & not be very tired- if I do my pathetic convulsive dolphin kick, maybe 3:10 & exhausted.
Peter, the solution seems clear, go back to the original breaststroke rules and allow butterfrog in breaststroke while keeping butterfly pure, i.e. no devolution into breaststroke kick. :p
Leo, I stand appropriately chastened. :notworthy:
For the historians out there: was there a point at which the dolphin kick was legal in breaststroke or was it introduced after the split?
