Hi all, I was asked by the World Open Water Event Coordinator to post this. Please let any one you are in contact with at Worlds know about this information.
It is essential that anyone planning on swimming the open water event on Friday, August 11 have their credentials before the event.
Apparently some people, that are only swimming that event, believe that they can show up at the venue the morning of the event and swim. They can not. They must go to the Stanford location before the event and be accrediated.
Also, the event starts at 12 noon, but they will start marshalling the first few waves at 11:00 a.m.
Happy Swimming to All!

Lane Mom,
Thanks for the info. Through the world of cell phones, email, blackberry's and so on I am doing my coaching electronically.
Question from a swimmer--can fastskins be worn in the open water competition? Including all types: neck to ankle, waist to ankle, and jammer.
Thanks,
Patrick
From the FINA rule book
MOWS 7-states wetsuits can be worn by the swimmer is not eligible for honors/awards
GR 5.3-states what dimensions the suit may cover (as in a fastskin).
GR 5.5--states the suit must be FINA approved (assuming all fastskins are).
With nothing stating otherwise, I will advice said swimmer to wear the fastskin.

The open water booklet at the web site says that thermal caps are allowed as long as they are under the cap they give you. Not sure if thermal means the same as neophrene.
Can't recall where I've seen it, but I believe that neoprene caps are not acceptable. Could be the insulation factor or the floatation factor, don't know, but I recall looking at this a year or so back and determining that they were not an acceptable option.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
