Many of the forum regulars seem to be going to Stanford, alas, others of us will not be there. Some of you that are going will access the internet while there, however briefly- why not share? I have created this thread so you can report on the sights, sounds, swims, sunburns, socials etc. It matters not whether you be 'elite', 'newbie' or whatever, your impressions would be interesting to read. You could comment on great swims, technique, facilities, judging, the announcer, outrageous behavior of other forum participants, complaints, kudos- whatever. If you do, I at least would be grateful and if the thread garners much in the way of postings it could be a valuable archive for people to check for future Worlds. I lay down the guantlet...

  • Matt.....sorry my friend but rumor has it that the 50 fly might go till 8pm Sunday night which is past my bed time and means we'll have to call raincheck on that beer.....! And by the way....Michael well done but also the same to the 100 others putting this show together!

Great idea, Peter! I'm not going to Stanford... so I will be reading this thread. :D And, I join in on the thanks to Michael. I met him in Riccione in 2004 when he was doing research for this year's worlds. He's dedicated heart and soul to this project. I'll buy him a Peroni on his next visit to Italy!!!

Just to move the ball down the field a bit: - Paul Smith and I are going to get together for a chilled, malted beverage on Sunday after the 50 fly (where he's seeded 1st, and I'm seeded 109th in our age group. I plan on bringing a nice, long novel to read while I wait for his heat.) If anyone else would care to join us, we will try to gather and decide on a location after Paul has had his swim. - Next item, we already owe a debt of grattitude, even before the meet starts, to Michael Moore. There are dozens of reasons, and I'm sure we don't know the half of it. However, the point I wanted to make was his dedicated efforts trolling these dicussion fora at USMS to answer questions and dispell rumors. This is well above and beyond the call of duty of putting out fresh info on the FINA web site. We all owe him a big thank you. Matt
  • I believe it was already mentioned somewhere here that all relays will be in one pool (presumably the faster pool).
  • Originally posted by Frank Thompson Also, I wonder who will swim in the new Belardi pool first when the meet opens with the 800 Meter Free? Men or Women. Women.

What an important meet this must be, for Tall Paul to turn down the opportunity for a Tall Cool one! Ane I echo Paul's comments - the organization of such an event really requires a dedicated army (or navy) of volunteers - thanks to all. To those going to the event, remember to express your gratitude to the volunteers - they CHOOSE to take their time and energies and devote them to OUR benefit! A sincere "thank you" will go a long way.
  • Matt......lets catch up for sure, I shouldn't be hard to find as I'll be wearing TYR sweats trying to avoid the tomatoes being thrown at me by Mel! By the way....have you upgrades suits since Seattle? :) If not I can probably score you a great one! Jon.......trust me.......there will be PLENTY of beer to be had, just not on Sunday when I may not b swimming till 7pm.....I'm a happy hour kind of guy!

OK, since we are swimming the same 200 free, 50 fly schedule on Sunday, can I offer you a sports drink and a friendly chat sometime between the two heats? Matt
  • Yes, many thanks ahead of time to Michael, et al. I'll be the 1st (?) to ask this pain-in-the-butt question. Is there a tentative timeline posted anywhere?
