Zoomers Fins

Anybody use Zoomers Fins? I was considering ordering some and see the sizing is somewhat confusing. I wear a 10 shoe (narrow foot) and the size choices in the Zoomers for me is a 8.5-10 or a 10-11.5 I was wondering do they run large or small? Go with the larger size or smaller?

I have a pair of zoomers and have stopped using them because they really chew up my feet. I do a lot better with fins that have soft rubber in the part that surrounds the foot.

My red zoomers were chewing up my feet too. Ankle-high white athletic socks worked fine to fix that. They came out of the pool looking pretty clean. Good use for old ratty-looking socks since the chlorine will eat them up anyhow. But socks in general are a nuisance for sets where you kick-pull-swim or otherwise are in and out of your fins. I abandoned my red zoomers after a couple of years for some big fins since we do a lot of those kinds of combo sets.

I use Zoomers (blue)... They fit fine and are better (I think) than the Speedo training fins, because they don't over exaggerate my swimming ability. I have a tiny foot, so I ordered small. They did seem a bit small at first but have since kinda stretched and are fine. However, a lot of people I know buy the generic training fins and cut them down over time to Zoomer length. You may have to wear socks with any fin you get...

I think Zoomers is an actual brand of short fins.I use Speedo zoomers/short fins now and find them great.Having used all sorts of fins for surf, swimming ,diving I find sizes vary between brands and styles. The only sure way is to try them on.I have an 11 right and 11.5 US left foot..quite wide...You dont want them tight .. Miy fins are size 12-13 US....they are tight to get on but fit great...snug... your feet will ache if they're tight and you'll get blisters if they're loose....borrow someones to trial if you can.
  • I got both red and blue Zoomers as a Christmas gift. The reds were uncomfortable, and I never bothered with the blues because a teammate loaned me a pair of Hydros. He said he had struggled with the Zoomers, and recommended the Hydros. I bought a pair the day after I tried them, and the Zoomers are gathering dust. Hydros are a softer rubber compound and seem to feel and fit better. I use them about once or twice per week for something or other, and they are holding up just fine since I bought them in around February. Don't tell my brother, the donor of the Zoomers.

I have a size 12 1/2 to 13 feet. I had a pair for that size. They ripped apart around my ankles because they were too big. Now I use the smaller size. I don't use them a lot though. Every other Wednesday, I do an all Zoomer workout.

You can avoid blistering and red marks caused by fins if you wear knee-high stockings with your fins. It looks a little less odd if you roll down the top (scuba divers sometimes use stockings to get their wetsuits on). Also, there are a few companies who sell fin socks. Finis sells thin nylon/lycra socks and TYR sells Latex ones that can be worn to make fins a bit more comfortable. Then, of course, there are the thicker fin booties, but to wear those you really need to buy your fins a little bigger than normal, as most of them are made out of Neoprene (a thicker material). -Carrie __________________ SwimOutlet.com

Oionions please I want to incorporate the use of fins in my workout, but am not sure of what type of fin to use/buy. I reread the article in the swimbag section of Swimmer, and am still confused. I find when I use fins I develop leg cramps pretty quickly - about 6 laps, some of the fins reportedly decrease leg cramps ie HydroTech z fins but they also have the cut out foot which I am not sure about. My Y has tons of Speedo Optimus training fins which are the ones I am using. Should I invest in my own, if so which ones? Am I doing something wrong that I get leg cramps? Most of the swimmers I see use the zoomers or these speedo ones. Two of our guys really like the TYR split fins but their feet are little too big for me to try their fins. Should I just struggle on with the Y fins - is it a matter of conditioning? Thanks for your input.
  • You should be able to try the fins that are too big. If your kick is up/down, they'll stay on even if they're a couple sizes too big. If you kick with bent knees, you'll pull your feet right out of the fin. Might have the secondary advantage of finding out if your kick is right.
