  • :applaud:Getting Clock Blocked Ande's Pace Clock Rant I'm spoiled at the Texas Swim Center, it's got many well place big bright yellow foot-high-font pace clocks 10 feet off the ground, they are very visible. Not only that but the minute digits are the same as the time so when it's on 30 minutes, it's 30 after the hour. You don't need to ask the coach what time it is. Also all the clocks automatically syncronize by radio, I plugged one in in the diving well and it on it's own aligned with the others. I can't stand pools that have no pace clock. Almost worse than no paceclock are crappy pace clocks. They are very frustrating. Crappy pace clocks are busted, they have dingy yellowed plastic or are in poorly lit pools which make them impossible to see. I'm near sighted I can't see the hands, I can't tell which one is black and which one is red. When I'm leading a lane, people have to tell me when to go. I leave when the swimmer beside me does or just go second in the lane. I don't like the traditional white pace clocks with the black and red hands. Pool managers please get big bright pace clocks. Not the 3 in 1 white ones, The clock doesn't have to be the top of the line special, (which is best) just the Standard Colorado Pace Clock will do. I prefer the big bright yellow ones that I can see from 100 feet away. Better yet, the swim center should just make the score boards the pace clock go with a 4 foot high fonts. other pace clock related rants: Life guard stands that block me from seeing the pace clock People that block me from seeing the pace clock, swimmers, coaches, by standers, get out of the way. Bright sunlight which makes the pace clock impossible to see Coming in on a hard swim and not getting my time. My preference is a big bright pace clock that I can see and a friend in the lane or a coach on the deck who calls out my times when I'm doing fast swims in practice. I hate getting clock blocked. OK I'll step down from starting block podium. I starting to feel better. :applaud: i used to swim in a facility that had a digital clock and a retractable roof. every thunderstorm the clock would be out for days and the roof stuck. but at least there, i could see the clock. Where i swim now, it is the white clocks and i cannot see the clocks if they are synchronized (it is anybody's guess). i have to set a watch and leave it at the end of the lane. why do i leave it b/c it has flown off my wrist doing fly and ended up in the next lane. clock blockers aggravate me also. or in the warmup pool at a meet, you want to practice turns and there are people hanging out and socializing right at the end of the lane.

I bought my own 15" analog paceclock for swimming outdoors. I get to place it but sometimes people move it while I'm swimming and another team jerked the wires out of the on/off button, haven't fixed it yet. One night at practice we were in the middle of a race-pace timed swim when somebody decided to reset the digital paceclocks so they matched the actual time of day. Arrgghh! My wristwatch is nice except the lag to focus on it with foggy goggles when coming in on a hard repeat.
  • This morning I leave the pool only to discover that one of the older women has parked so close to me that I have to get in through the passenger side door. I should have let my truck "rub" her mercedes as I backed out of the parking stall.
  • the swim center clocks sychronize by radio, you plug em in and they are good to go Nice to know, Ande. Yeah, I don't think that Villanova will put the money out for that whether it is pricey or not. We just make do at practice.
  • I agree, there is nothing worse than someone blocking the pace clock. That really elevates my blood pressure!:bitching: Yea, see the end of my blog posting today. We did a fast 100 at the end of the set, everyone in my lane looked over at the clock to get times, only to see a guy sitting in front of it blocking it, either putting on or taking off his fins. One guy said something to the coach about a little swimming coutesy.
  • My Masters team is being discontinued the week before Zones because lack of pool space. :bitching: Swim for DAMM! You can even go to some of the Southlake practices and try out the zone meet pool! Plenty o workouts to choose from! http://www.damswim.com/

Swim for DAMM! You can even go to some of the Southlake practices and try out the zone meet pool! Plenty o workouts to choose from! http://www.damswim.com/ I live 1.8 miles from the LAC pool. But I did email Nancy Wendell to find out if she is still coaching at Southlake. CISD Natatorium is the next closest pool with a masters team to me. But 16.3 miles is a big difference... It would be cool to say "I am Michelle's teammate!"

With all my preparation to get here, swimming was going to be the big relief. The pool is outdoor so its too cold for the next month swim, then two months later the water temperature will be over 110 degrees.:bitching: Why did I carry all my stuff this far?:censor:
