Swim Rant

here you go, the thread you've been waiting for SWIM RANT RANT to your hearts content about aspects of SWIMMING and SWIMMERS that bug YOU I encourage you to be good natured and hilarious you may find it cathartic Ande
  • Not the most pleasant thing... but on a side note, what do you think your body is doing in the pool when you do a hard swim workout? :) Ah, but one is entirely avoidable. Just take a freakin shower BEFORE getting in.
  • Absolutely. In fact its state law in my state to shower before entering a pool, I'm assuming thats true in most states as well. Strangely, in my experience, its the team and competitive swimmers that are the largest violators of this law ;) Hahahah! I think we (swimmers) give chlorine way more credit for its sanitizing ability than it really has! :D
  • The same could be said for the 15 second "shower" most of the non sweaty people take before entering a pool :) Turn on shower, aim at face, turn off shower, enter pool :) Before swim team as a kid I remember they made us take showers before getting in the pool...but it was just like you describe...except the 15 sec. thing was more like 1.5 seconds!! or less!!! :applaud:
  • This is off the previous subject, but I need to vent my swim rant... Our pool was closed from April 1-18 to repair leaks. OK, no problem there; :censor: happens. But, it has become quite apparent the "repairs" were unsuccessful, because the water level dropped several inches over the weekend, just like it had done before the attempted repairs. It looks like I'm in for another shutdown. :badday: Oh well... It looks like I will have to turn it into a "Swim Happy" by returning to the 79 degree Buggatorium, after Nationals. :bliss:
  • OK, my rant is about pool conditions and swimmers badly in need of Prozac... Our pool in Oro Valley never fails to have a "maintenance" closure for about 2 weeks within a month of Masters Nationals. Grrrrrr. The water temperature also fluctuates from 75 to 90 on a regular basis. This also annoys the hell out of me. Today it was on the cold end and I spent 30 minutes in the shower warming up... OK, on to people in need of Prozac...There is nothing worse than swimming with someone so uptight about a change in an interval by 5 seconds or you beating them when they don't want to be beaten or you swimming breaststroke when that's what you need to work on or whatever. I had someone scream at me once and then get out of the pool and throw her fins across the deck before jumping in another lane because she said I left 5 seconds early on an interval. She was the one who couldn't even add...She was just jealous because I was leading the set and kicking her ass. I also had someone almost swim over me once at a meet (once he padded on my ass a few times I ducked underwater). When I confronted him later, he said he was "touching me toes to notify me he wanted to pass." The guy seriously needs an anatomy lesson...People like this put me in a bad mood when I swim to start the day with a good frame-of-reference! If you can't be respectful and put the whole workout thing in perspective, I wish you would either go get a scrip, a mannekin you can molest, or buy an Endless pool and swim in your damn basement by yourself for goodness sake!
  • I got in a rogue workout this morning! At 6 am I walked out of the locker room onto the pool deck. Observation #1: I was the only person there. Observation #2: there was quite a bit of standing water on the pool deck. Observation #3: one of the hot tubs was flooding over - thus the source of the water on the pool deck. Hmmmmm... was the pool closed? I didn't see anything posted... Observation #4: there was a piece of paper taped to the outside of the glass door to the pool area. I decided to get in and see if anyone chased me out. A few hundred yards later another guy came out of the locker room and hopped into the non-flooding hot tub. More guys emerged; eventually all the lanes were occupied. No women though... was something posted in the women's locker room but not the men's? No, by the end of my workout a couple women did appear and start swimming. On my way out I took a closer look at that piece of paper. It did indeed say "Temporary Pool Closure." Because of the layout of the place, the women were much more likely to notice that paper on the way to their locker room, so that's why there were fewer of them in the pool. If I encounter the same situation tomorrow morning, I'm following the same playbook...

Athletes play with balls... Hahaha! Sorry I have a dirty mind. My biggest rant... People that use the wet or dry saunas at the gym and come out drenched in sweat; then jump in the pool. Freaking gross :bitching: Not the most pleasant thing... but on a side note, what do you think your body is doing in the pool when you do a hard swim workout? :)

Thats when you pull the old fake pushoff maneuver and make her go early by mistake haha. Your post just cements my attitude towards never training with a team again. Its things like that I'll never miss about team practice.
