Here in Indiana it finally is warm enough for the outdoor pools to open. Locally our park pool has lap swim every weekday in the am for an hour, some days 2 hours. anyway I usually have a practice wrote down that I do to fill up the hour or so. Today I finished my sets 10 minutes early, dont know why but I did. Was wishing I knew something to do for ten minutes. Something not real intense (just got done with that stuff) but something more than just an easy 100. i suppose I could have done an additional kick set...but I HATE kick sets, beside I had already done one as part of my workout....Any ideas? thanks in adance
Is there a deep end that you can use? I always need kick work, but find it's a lot easier to convince myself to do some vertical kicking rather than a kick set. You can do hands in the water/hands out of the water for 30 sec intervals and easily chew up some time. Also, if there's a deep area where diving is allowed you can do dives off the side and work on streamlines, sprinting, underwater dolphin kick, etc just to break things up.
Finishing 10 minutes early, means 10 extra minutes at our Sponsor's Pub. Or 10 precious minutes to rally the others into going out for something to 'eat'. ;)
If I have extra time (which is rare), I like to do either drills or short 'challenge' sets, like 25's or 50's decreasing the number of strokes or breaths by 1 each repetition, seeing how low I can go without missing my goal.
the end of practice is a great time to do some hypoxic work. underwater 25s from a dive if possible, if not do them from as push. you should be able to get at least 10 done. or do 25 underwater, 50 easy, 6 times.
