Help My Flutter Kick is Horrible!

I am slow, and when I mean slow, I mean slow. I can do a 26 sec 50 with fins, but without I come in just under 1:20! I think a big part of it is just taking the fins off and doing a lot of kick sets to learn to feel the water better with my feet. I have a good breaststroke kick so I don't think my problem is an overly weak pair of legs, although they could be in better shape. Also, myankles are fairly flexible as I can point my toes and make my feet bend backwards past an even position with my shins. However, I do think that I need to loosen up my ankles when I kick. I feel like I get more out of my kick for those brief moments when I allow my ankles to snap back and forth with my kick. I think I actually need to relax more to kick faster as weird as that sounds. I suppose the answer to my question is that I simply need to take of the fins and do kick set after kick set until I learn to feel the water better with my feet and become more efficient.

  • Hey Redbird, I went with a board to train & test it the same way each time I did a belly flop dive where the board skims along the surface boards are a good choice for free, fly & *** kicking sometimes it's important to kick fly & *** without boards I want to see how much I can improve my 25, 50, 75, & 100 flutter kicking times this season. I want to have a power flutter kick for 50 & 100 free. I felt like my kick fell off in my 100 free at SPMA. Hi Shane, good job, show your times like this (below) & including prior dates & times Start using a stop watch, get timed to 10th's of a sec how much rest are you taking between efforts? which order are you testing your kicks in, consider changing the order kicking times 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 scy 12/16/09 :18, :40, 1:03, 1:30, push, pace clock 12/09/09 :18, :40, 1:04, 1:33, push, pace clock I did not get splits on my 1:07 kick Probably out in 30 or 31 here's how I turn with a board? about 6 - 8 feet from the wall I take a free stroke with my right arm then I take a stroke with my left arm that's holding the board, kind of sweeps to the side, my right hand is forward & grabs the wall, my left arm & the board are pointing towards the other end, I bring my knees / legs up and around then put my feet on the wall let go with my right hand & push off hard I move my right hand back to the board (out of the water) during the push off & glide then power up my kick I have pretty fast turns with a board. My best ever flutter kicks with a board from a push are (college times) 50 28.0 100 1:02? 200 2:16?
