I don't see what's so suprising about a 52 100 *** since the American record is under 52 seconds?......BUT If the 200 free time of 1:29.8 were real then that would be suprising since the NCAA record is 1:32 something. Newmastersswimmer

The reported date of the time is wrong - states it was accomplished in 2006. For me this makes the time suspect.
  • Kirk: I saw the 100 *** that Peter VDK did and it was against your school Michigan State. He was in a real battle and lost at the finish to Ian Clutten of MSU. However he won the 50 free in :20.75 in a close race with Chris DeJong at :20.90. MSU only other win came with Rudy Wagemuar out touching Matt Patton by .07 in the 100 Back. The meet was kind of a utility meet for the seniors captains Peter VDK, Chris DeJong, and Davis Tarwater because they all swam there off events. Chris DeJong did a :49 in the 100 Fly. Michigan will lose these swimmers next year but have a great recruiting class coming in as replacements.
  • The 100 *** time for Ivan Barnes is correct. He swam that time at the Texas Invite. Heck of a fast time for this point in the season. Remember Simon Burnett swam a 1:32 200 free last year at this point in the season. Yeah, I was impressed by that 100 *** swim by Peter VDK, too, Jim. Let's face it, the kid's a stud. The 400 IM and 100 *** show his versatility, but I'm equally impressed at how fast he can swim at all distances in free. At Texas he swam a 1:33 200 free, a 14:48 1650, and anchored Michigan's 400 free relay with a :43.5!!
  • Yes, I looked at the results to that meet at the time. I know Michigan is supposed to be my bitter rival, but I've always been impressed by their program. One year when I swam we came close to beating them in a dual meet. It came down to the 400 free relay. If we won it we won the meet. MSU was ahead after the third leg, but Gustavo Borges was Michigan's anchor and smoked our swimmer.
