My First Masters Meet

Well, I just got back from my first ever masters swim meet (and my first swim meet in 20 years), the UBC Masters Meet, which was held on November 20th in beautiful Vancouver, BC. I was in the 35-39 age group. Below are my goal times, my actual times and my placing (all races were short course METRES): 50 free - 30.5 - 28.58 - 3rd place 50 fly - 36.0 - 32.28 - 1st place 50 *** - 40.0 - 39.30 - 1st place I was very pleased with my free and fly times, but particularly my fly time. I was so giddy and excited when I saw my time that I burst out with wild yelping and fist pumping. It was soooo embarassing! Anyway, I'm hooked and I can't wait to go to my next meet.
  • This is why I'm "hooked" on swimming. Not because of the "joy" you get from finishing a diffcult workout, but the rush from swimming a race that turns out better than you expected. That happened for me last weekend, so I know how you feel. Congrats.

Good job, Joe. I saw the fist pumping & didn't think anything negative about it. Just don't get down on yourself when the time comes & a swim is slower than you thought it would be- the whole thing is a work in progress. Nice to meet you; hope to see you in Nanaimo.

Nice to meet you too, Peter. BTW, nice times for your 400 free and 50 ***! I mailed my entry form for the Nanaimo meet yesterday (Nov 22) but the deadline is today. Do you think they will still accept my entry if it's a day or two late? I figure it will be there tomorrow at the latest.

I'll see at workout tonight, Joe. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, Canada Post permitting.

Joe: How long ago did you start training for this meet?, I am in your same age group and I do the same times you do for those events, but I have being swimming constantly for the last 13 years. Good job...
