Does anyone get unbelievably, overpoweringly itchy after swimming? It is so bad some nights that I literally can't get to sleep!
It is worst where my skin is getting stretched or where it is touching the couch or bed or whatever, and it is pretty much restricted to my upper body...
I at least rinse off after each workout, if not take a full on shower.. Anyone else get this, or have any solutions?
Help!
Chlorine really dries your skin. I always use lotion after showering to moisturize! Very important. I think that will help with the itchy skin. I know somewhere on the boards everyone talked about their favorite post swim lotions.
My favorite is Bath and Body works Black Raspberry Vanilla Body Cream, but that may be too girly for you.
Swimmy :)
I am religious about my lotion application after working out. If I miss any little spot, it will itch and drive me crazy. That stretchy-skin feeling that you mentioned -- that's exactly how I'd describe it.
If black rasberry vanilla is too girly for you (I love Bath and Body Works or Victoria's Secret lotions because they disguise the cholrine smell), then try an unscented lotion such as Vaseline Intensive Care or Lubriderm. I get them at Costco in the gigantic sizes and go through about one a month.
For lotion, I would recommend Aveeno or generic oatmeal lotions. I have extremely dry skin, and many standard lotions are so much crap that you end up using three times as much. And it isn't girly smelling.
cocoa butter! that's my solution to the chlorine itchies. especially if you've got naturally dry skin. and it always gets worse as the weather gets colder.
but i use a cocoa butter/shea butter body wash and then an vitamin e enriched cocoa butter lotion. they're not all that girly smelling (slightly chocolatey) and you can get the lotion in an unscented version.
:)
Bath and what of rasberry who?
Yeah, probably a little too girly... ;)
After all the crap I've given my wife for her addiction to (hundreds of different) lotions, I don;t know if I could ever live down using it myself...
I may have to suck up and deal, though, it's actually that bad!
Thakns for the tip...

Avoid the temptation, no matter how good a nice hot shower would feel on your muscles. Hot water dries skin out like crazy. I get the little pins and needles feeling after I take a hot shower.

All the above works well...but for when I get really intense cases of itching (varsity practices twice a day will do that to you...) I rub on a little cortizone-10 with aloe and it works like a charm!
I live & swear by the Body Shop's body butters. They come in some really great flavors but the key is they have shea butter in it & some have cocoa butter as well. This stuff works magic!
