Good Goggles

I usually wear sweeds and they are great becasue I go through goggles rather quickly and they are nice because they are inexpensive, but as my highschool swim season has just begun I find my goggles falling off my face as I dive. I have been swimming for aobut 6 years and am terrible at diving, but have usually managed to keep my goggles on while I swim. Any ideas for a good pair of goggles...or possibly improving the dive? I cant have them fall off or leak because I wear contacts and swim the 500 and am afraid I might lose a contact and I dont want to have to stop swimming in the middle (how embarassing).
  • Try the View Snyper's made by TUSA. They are swede-like but have a rubber padding on the eye sockets. They are the longest lasting goggle's I've ever used. One pair can last up to a year (average swimming 4x per week). Only downfall is they're not available in clear.
  • if your biggest concern is your goggles falling off on your start (especially in the 500!), instead of switching brands, try wearing them under your cap for meets. hopefully you can continue to wear the same goggles for both meets and practice (i personally hate switching back and forth between meets and practice). i also wear contacts, so i know where you're coming from in being worried about your goggles. i've worn my goggles under my cap for years, and its rare that i lose them. occasionally one side might get a little water in it, but not usually enough to cause problems during my race... and on your contacts- keep a spare pair (or even 2 pairs) in your swim bag, just in case you would lose a contact. that seems like common sense, but you'd be surprised at the number of people that swim with their contacts that don't show up to meets with spares! i even have extra ones for when i'm at practice, just in case (but i'm blind as a bat without them- driving home would be interesting!) :)

I love the Vanquishers too. So comfortable and I don't get the raccoon goggle eyes. Why don't you like them for a meet? I'm not ready to compete yet. I told my husband that as soon as I can fit into a racing swimsuit I will be racing (they currently don't make competive swimsuits in my size) Anyway, when I swam competively in high school in the late 70s, no one wore goggles during swimmeets, so I'm really nervous about it. I'm assuming just make sure you enter the water in a streamline sort of position?

To get them to stay on requires them to be tighter than I like. The Sengars stay on with half the strap tension.

Strap tension is such a big issue with me. it seems that no matter what goggles I have on, I have to tighten them about every ten to fifteen days. I had to grab a pair of goggles quickly the other day and got a pair of nikes that are preety good. I really liked the way the strap held to my head. I have started touse only clear goggles. Iused to think that it was so cool to have mirrored ones. NOw, I don't need that.

What about your own saliva? That's home-brewed (so to speak) and always in ample supply. :p
  • Speedo Vanquisher - They fit well and the anti-fog lasted for about 1 month - I am working on a homebrewed anti-fog concoction and will posts results if it works.

I use the Speedo goggle spray and it works incredibly well.
  • I just created a HomeBrew of AntiFog that seems to work: 50% Rubbing Alchohol 50% Water 5-12 drops of baby shampoo Tried it this morning and used it 3 times during practice and it worked. I may need to fine tune the percentages a little more, I'll keep you posted.
