(this post should be read with a nasally-Andy Rooney delivery) Don't you think there might be few too many polls being taken on this site lately? Nothing against them in general, but you have the feeling that any moment someone will post a poll asking if we secure our swim trunks with one knot or two...

From The New Lexicon Webster's Dictionary of the English Language: so-cial-ism: n. a political and economic theory advocating collective ownership of the means of production and control of distribution. It is based on the belief that all, while contributing to the good of the community, are equally entitled to the care and protection which the community can provide. The theory assumes different forms according to the relative stress laid on its social, economic and political corollaries. Thus Marxian socialism is concerned very largely with the economic issues, and postulates the communal ownership and control of the means of production, distribution and exchange. Christian socialism stresses the social aspect, making of the theory a way of life. Democratic socialism stresses the political aspect, accepting a compromise in the economic field between state and private enterprise. All forms of the theory agree in being opposed to uncontrolled capitalism and in seeking equality of opportunity for all members of the community. e-met-ic: 1. adj. causing vomiting 2. n. a mixture or medicine that induces vomiting. So, while I am no advocate of marxian socialism, I fail to see how the words "Christian socialism" or "democratic socialism" would cause me to blow chunks, spew, hurl, regurgitate, drive the porcelain bus, pray to the porcelain gods, vomit or puke. maybe it's just me
