I will be visiting Las Vegas in December and was wondering if anyone had any information on whether any of the Hotels have a lap pool, or at least a few lap lanes. I have call several, including Mirage, Bellagio, Luxor, and Excalibur, without any luck.

Desert Breeze Aquatic Center is the place to go. They have a masters team if you are looking to swim with a group. It is about 3 miles west of the strip. I swim there when I travel to Vegas for work. Great facility! Call information in Vegas if you want the number or look in the SPMA website for City of Las Vegas Masters. P.S. Bellagio does have a lap lane in the main pool if you are staying there as well as Casear's Palace. Not sure about the others, but I know Wynne, Mandalay Bay and Ventian do not have a separate lap lane in the pool.

I was at Bellagio for a meeting and tried to get in a workout at 7am; unfortunately the pool doesn't open until 9 (although the casino is of course open 24 hrs.).

The Flamingo has two lanes in one of their pools but the afternoon crowd makes it difficult to do much swimming. I think if you got there early in the morning you would be just fine though. I was there two weeks ago for a bachelor party and lap swimming was not really an option with all of the beer I had on board!
  • Most of the hotel pools in Vegas are not at all conducive to lap swimming. In December I'm not sure any of them would be open, anyway. Definitely look for a Y or some other non-hotel facility.
  • Originally posted by Guvnah I have been to this YMCA. Pretty nice one. 25 meter pool, if I recall. Spacious. Not crowded. Nice locker rooms. Heads up! If you don't have your own transportation, we found the taxi ride to be rather pricey. (About $10 each way, so it was effectively $20 per day to swim there for us.) Have not been there for 8 years, but I remember it being quite nice and not crowded. My SIL lives there, so she was our taxi!
  • I was in Vegas in July, stayed at Mandalay Bay. They have a large wave pool, with markers that go across the bottom indicating a change in depth. I went out to the 6 foot line, and pretty much had that area to myself. There is only 1 wave every 2 minutes I think, and it really wasn't that strong anyway. The length across was almost exactly 25 yards!! Most hotels heat their pools year-round (I've been in winter before), so you can always adjust to wherever you stay. Another option to consider--UNLV has their university pool. I looked into this once, but the hours were a bit limited. The campus is extremely close to the strip.

You might want to check this website: www.travel2vegas.com/poolschedule.html It has pool availability for most of the larger Vegas hotels. But of course, it's always a good idea to ask before you book. JIM

I try to swim at whatever Casino I'm at if it's possible, but usually it's not. I forget the name but one casino you can kind of swim at has a wave machine. Every few laps you have to swim through waves. Oh, it's packed with children on the shallow end although there are none where you swim. I'm thinking of trying the Montecito. The "pool area" was featured on TV Monday night - the "Las Vegas" TV show - excellent looking pool!
