Goggle eyes

Does anyone have a good suggestion for minimizing the after effects of 1 1/2 hours in a pair of goggles? I'm in my 40's and have tried many, many different styles of goggles and experimented with tightening etc. I have rings around my eyes for at least a couple of hours after swimming. It's not that big of a deal -just wondered if anyone knows of any tricks to minimize the after effects or some miracle goggles that don't leave such marks. I realize that the main problem is age--(less elastic skin) Can't change that! Thanks!

I love my goggle eyes! That being said, one of the things that helps me is to remove the goggles from my face (so that they rest on my forehead) between sets - while getting instruction from the coach. While this might mean only a few seconds or up to a minute or two, it seems to help. Clinique (and other brands) offer a type of cooling eye gel, which I put on after I swim. This also helps reduce swelling and it feels good. If you shower at home, try keeping the gel (eye cream) in the frig. and put it on after you shower. Feels great! I wear Tyr Femme goggles...made for a small frame face. They help too.

My View goggles are about dead. I love them and being able to see the wall and the bottom of the pool, but they are a little bit too big. Does anyone know of a good pair of optical goggles made to fit a womans face? Lainey

Yep. Remove your goggles and try some of the few drills where you don't have to wear them. Of course as a backstroker that's easy but maybe someone has freestyle type drills without goggles. The best thing to do is to go in person to a store that serves swim teams and universities. You'll find a wide range of goggles. My store keeps a version of each pair they sell behind the counter. You can try them all on. Speedo Socket Rocket is what I think Phelps wears and it's very narrow. Speedo Vanquisher is what I think Coughlin and Hoff wear. Also very narrow.
  • I like the Tyr Socket Rockets for practice. The goggle eyes fade alot sooner with these for me. I don't wear them for racing, since I had them fall off before. For racing I just asume have goggle eyes for hours, after all I am with other swimmers so who cares!

Thanks for the feedback! I bought Speedo Futurity Jr. and no longer have "goggle eyes". These goggles are small which fit my face better and so I don't need to wear them as tightly.
