I received a challenge from New masters swimmer aka jim B
he wrote
"Overall I'm not quite ready to vanquish Ande yet .... but I am formally challenging Ande on the 500 free...... At the end of the short course season, the man with the slower 500 free time has to buy the other swimmer one beer for every second he is behind the faster swimmers time .... (kinda like the John Smith vs Bobby Patten bet at Nationals last year) ..... Hopefully Ande will go to Nationals in Coral Gables this year so we might get to face off head to head in the 500. Ande has more overall speed than I do right now ..... so I think that the 500 is my best chance (if there is any chance at all?).... but what the heck.... I can't just roll over and submit defeat to an ex longhorn now can I!!??"
Should I accept?
ande
A beer a second is low stakes, make it a beer for every half of a second. And, for every full second there is different, make him buy you a bottle of scotch. So, if you win by 2.5 seconds, you get 5 beers and 2 bottles of scotch.
you're right
I know he will
If I accept
maybe I should keep my workouts a secret

hmm, that could get expensive
gas might be $8 a gallon by then

The challenge would be wonderful if it were really meaningful! Why not a galloon of gas.
I don't drink much
though I did have a few on saturday
not into scotch
do we get to pick the brand?

OR
1) Sandbag him by erroneous info
2) Make him post his
3) Get an additional consideration as part of the bet payoff

And if you win by 5 seconds, you get twice the above plus all expenses paid at the Betty Ford Clinic.
Taking sides: Ande is a nice guy, but the Mathletes have to stick together against the insensate evil of the UT swim team alums, so: GO JIM B!
