a challenge from New masters swimmer aka jim B.

I received a challenge from New masters swimmer aka jim B he wrote "Overall I'm not quite ready to vanquish Ande yet .... but I am formally challenging Ande on the 500 free...... At the end of the short course season, the man with the slower 500 free time has to buy the other swimmer one beer for every second he is behind the faster swimmers time .... (kinda like the John Smith vs Bobby Patten bet at Nationals last year) ..... Hopefully Ande will go to Nationals in Coral Gables this year so we might get to face off head to head in the 500. Ande has more overall speed than I do right now ..... so I think that the 500 is my best chance (if there is any chance at all?).... but what the heck.... I can't just roll over and submit defeat to an ex longhorn now can I!!??" Should I accept? ande
  • great ideas but I still haven't officially accepted his challenge If I do it's going to interfere with my plan to become a sprinter again This challenge could be the motivation I need to train hard in tough sets my mantra could be BEAT BORK BEAT BORK BEAT BORK ande Originally posted by fatboy OR 1) Sandbag him by erroneous info 2) Make him post his 3) Get an additional consideration as part of the bet payoff

And don't worry about your blog. It's unlikely he'll want to do the exact same thing you're doing anyway. He might have his own plan. I'd love to see this race next spring. You both MUST enter with the same time to get into the same heat. I'm sure by next spring the race will become THE EVENT of the meet. I'm cheering for Ande because Longhorns stick together. But I also like to root for the challengers, too. So right now, I'm an equal opportunity rooter.
  • pressure is mounting great idea, same meet same entry time ... other wise it's like a postal swim but it looks like i'll be swimming a few 500's thanks for backing your fellow longhorn ande Originally posted by Jeff Commings This didn't seem to hurt John Smith's continuing reign in the sprints this year. I agree. I've heard the old "I haven't really been training for this event" ploy before. You've got to watch out for those guys! ;) There may be a loser on paper if this bet goes through, but my feeling is you'll both win in the bigger sense.

Raz, I'm placing a six pack on you to win. I'm telling you right now..... as your team captain for life...... you must crush him. Remember, it's not about winning. It's about embarassing the enemy. It's about pure ego. I want a clear and decisive Longhorn victory out of you or I'm telling Eddie. You will wear a burnt orange Longhorn cap for this event, and I will be behind your lane when you finish. After the meet, I take you to get a Longhorn tatoo on your back. Losing will cost you an extra six-pack and verbal abuse on the forum for 1 year. John Smith

You can still train for the sprints AND take Jim on ... This is quite the challenge ... you must on behalf of Longhorns everywhere take this challenge and beat Jim (I'm making myself an honorary Longhorn until we play them in footballl and kick their butts ;) Jim, make Ande take the challenge and show him how awesome "math geeks" can be ... make it a good race!

You longhorns. John I think we started something. A beer per half second can get costly and warm since you have to drink them all at once. Want a rematch on the 500?

Ande- you don't have to train for the 500, just follow John's splits as a template.

Losing will cost you an extra six-pack and verbal abuse on the forum for 1 year. posted by the GoodSmith I have to say that I do like your no mercy/cut throat attitude Mr. GoodSmith.......I expect nothing less from a true ex-longhorn! Unfortunately I have my own plans.......As far as messing up Ande's sprint events......I feel that if he is going to train for the 400 IM, then he is already going to be simultaneously training for the 500 free in many respects....(not exactly....but pretty much so).....So he doesn't really need to alter his training plans IMHO. I really like Ande.....he is a very nice guy and a very fast swimmer. I am apparently a glutton for punishment......I just don't know any better I guess. It is my duty as a representative of the smaller mid-major schools to take on the Longhorn Evil whenever possible......Since beating the GoodSmith in something like a 100 free or a 100 IM is completely beyond all reason, I have to pick my longhorn challenges so that I have "perhaps" a snowball's chance of winning......even if it is only a snowball's chance......I am aware that Ande is more than a formidable enough opponent.....I will be ready. Newmastersswimmer p.s. I am willing to modify the bet to include one beer per half second and/or the extra scotch requirements suggested by Aquageek......Upside down Margaritas can also be employed as well.....Basically whatever Ande will agree too.
