  • congratulations that's an excellent swim, very good splitting, you kept your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th 50's very close 10 Nelson, Kirk E 35 PNA 1:52.35 1:50.18 26.29 54.16 (27.87) 1:22.16 (28.00) 1:50.18 (28.02) ande Originally posted by knelson I'm really happy with how I swam at Nationals. Since starting Masters three years ago I've gone to all three SC Nationals and have dropped time every year in every event. I'm not sure how long I can continue to do that, but I'm certainly going to do my best to keep the downward trend going! Here were my splits in the 200 free: 26.29 54.16 1:22.16 1:50.18 So a 54.16 then a 56.02.
  • Thanks! My LMSC record is a 1:49.75, so I was shooting for that and just missed it. That's o.k., I need a goal for next year, right? My legs, in particular, were really burning that last 50 so I'm pretty happy I held on as well as I did.

In addition to breaking the 100 free record in the 60 - 64 age group by 3 seconds.....Richard also broke the 100 fly record in that age group by 5 seconds!!.....60 years old and he went 54.92 in the 100 fly!!...(and 22.3 in the 50 free....49.? in the 100 free)......I remember seeing the 100 fly race b/c I was waiting behing the blocks to swim my 100 fly......I could barely believe my own eyes when I saw it!! Newmastersswimmer p.s. As far as splitting goes......My splitting in Ft. Lauderdale was horrific! ...(for example I went 58.5 followed by 1:08.2 in my 200 fly)......but I am putting all that behind me now and hoping for big improvements over the next year or so??.....I am also planning to make some event changes....so maybe that will add something interesting?

David, It sounds like a great club to belong to. Nothing beats having an excellent coaching staff. There's a video clip of Jim's "perfect race" on the www.usaswimming.org site. Type his name in under the search section. The race analysis is very interesting too. A few comments were made about how much faster he could have been using today's starts and turning techniques. He was also wearing the drag type of suit and no goggles. ...and Mollie, that was some very even splitting. Nicely done. _______________________________ Val
