Do you ever smell blood during hard exercise?

I don't mean 'smell blood' figuratively. When I do hard sprints, after a few of them, I can smell blood when I exhale. Not rally strong smell, but enough to notice, and know what it is. Anyone else gets this?

  • I've smelled alcohol, which I have told my friends is a byproduct of anaerobic respiration (the Krebs cycle?) They don't believe me, but I am convinced this is true. The only time I smell blood is when I get punched in the nose, which, thankfully, hasn't happened for a while. But I wonder if the exertion of very hard exercise is causing capillaries to burst in your nasal passages? Very interesting phenomenon. Any exercise physiologists out there to comment on it?
