Hi pros, here. Please share me with what is your warm up before a breaststroke event. And do you warm-up AGAIN if there is still say 60 min before the event? Thank you.
  • I do 2 warmups, the first about 90min before I swim. This is mostly like my regular workout warmup except for doing some sprints and focusing on the turns. 30 min before the race I start my second warmup. What I do is probably unique to me and may not work for you. I don't get wet but rather start with slow movements of my arm while walking slowly. I gradually pick up the pace until about 5 min. before the race I am literally jumping and dancing.(especially for a 50 I want to be really warm and loose.) All the while I am visualizing the race and using positive self talk. This works for me better than swimming shortly before the race because I can keep moving right up to the race and I am not on the blocks wet, which makes me feel cool instead of warm. Also you don't have to worry about having your head underwater when your event is called and missing the race. Remember, for breaststroke it is very important to get your legs and back warm and loose.
  • I do lots of drills and not any pace or sprint. The drills are far more beneficial for me :)
