Hey everybody! Alright this is kind of a weird question and I hope I don't gross anyone out. I got a shammy for Christmas (LOVE IT) and I've been using it for about the past 3 monthes maybe 4 times a week. I ring it out as best I can, and store it (in the orginally little plastic tube) damp like the package says. However, lately it has been smelling kind of funny. Are you supposed to wash them? I have never washed mine, never thought I had too, but then it started smelling. It smelled when I first got it, and it's pretty much the same odor only a little stronger. Thanx!

p.s. Hope that's not to gross, of a weird question.

Kyra, now I know why I wasn't sleeping! PHEW!
The "instructions" on my sammy call it a chamois so who knows ...
And you can wipe off and squeeze it to drain the water, wipr, drain, wipe, drain as many times as you need to, then wrap yourself in a nice warm dry towel, and don't have to carry a heavy soggy cold water logged towel to your car.
What Joy it is to have a dry towel at the end of a swim meet, and not have to carry more than one! :D
I'm a creature of comfort!
Amen Geek! AND I LOVE my towel service! Let them foot the bill for all the towel washing, I pay them enough!
Chamois are great for meets. For practice since I have free towels I don't see a need.
Also, Geek, perhaps the Sammy/Chamois smell is what has been missing in your life all these years!
Actually, Aquageek, the chamois only gets stinky and yucky if you neglect it.
If you treat it like any other towel, squeeze the water out of it and let it dry out in an airy space it will be just fine for a long time.
If anything, I tend to keep misplacing mine, since they're not very big.
I used the car-wash type synthetic chamois before on cars, and this one works a lot like it.
Wipe, squeeze out, wipe squeeze out... it takes off and absorbs a lot more water off of you than a regular towel, much more absorbent then a regular terry towel, and if you squeeze it hard enough it feels almost dry.
I love using it, at meets and after practice. Any time I don't have to lug around a big drippy waterlogged towel is a bonus for me!

We can only hope that it is not the person leading your lane.

Think of the big bulky and water logged towel as weight training ;)
Yea, but...
After the workout, I have no energy left.:D
