Hey everybody! Alright this is kind of a weird question and I hope I don't gross anyone out. I got a shammy for Christmas (LOVE IT) and I've been using it for about the past 3 monthes maybe 4 times a week. I ring it out as best I can, and store it (in the orginally little plastic tube) damp like the package says. However, lately it has been smelling kind of funny. Are you supposed to wash them? I have never washed mine, never thought I had too, but then it started smelling. It smelled when I first got it, and it's pretty much the same odor only a little stronger. Thanx!

p.s. Hope that's not to gross, of a weird question.
I've washed my chamois every few months (depending on use). I also make sure to rinse it (several times) after each meet, to try to get the chlorine out.
Don't know if it is recommended :D, but I do it anyways, with no damage to the towel. (No need to put it in the dryer.)

What's a shammy?
I say wash it. But then again I don't even know what it is.
A chamois is one of those silly micro towels used solely by divers and not allowed in the swim bag of any serious swimmer.
I can't even imagine what that thing reeks like not having been washed for 4 months. The fact you don't know chamois washing protocols is further proof they are never to be used by swimmers.
That's what you think- wa hahahahahhaahahha (cue evil music).
Have you checked the back seat of your car?!

Kyra, I have a couple. The ty-dyed (how do you spell that?!) one I have I am SUPPOSE to wash in the washing machine (I think sans soap?!) first. I'd put it in the wash. I think that'll be ok.

It doesn't smell as bad as you think....only slightly stronger than the day I got it. And it's not my fault that they don't tell you on the package. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to ruin it. Thanx guys!

Kyra, my dear, please don't ever take anything Geek says seriously!
