When do you swim?

I am an evening swimmer 8:30-10:00 Our outdoor long course pool opened, but is only going to be used for am (6:00-7:30) workouts for the next month. I love swimming outdoors and long course so I thought, "I'll do it- I'll swim in the morning". So I did today. Now it is about 1pm and I am fading fast. I can't keep my train of thought. I just put my head down to get a little micro-sleep and noticed two different socks poking out from my pant bottoms (One all black anfd one black with red flowers). I was just curious what the break down of amers/lunch timers/pmers was. Also, any advice on how to get up in the morning?
  • Well more power to you morning swimmers. I don't know If I would be able to handle doing so many laps that early in the morning. I love being able to go after work & found a Masters team that does that thankfully T-Th. I have only only made it to 1 Sun morning practice.

If I could get myself out of bed I'd love to swim in the morning, I do like the feel of it when I actually make it to a morning workout.

My pool doesn't open until 6AM. I have to be at work by 8AM... that isn't enough time to get in a good swim, shower, do my hair, make-up, dress and drive to work. Besides, I'm NOT a morning person, never have been, never will be. Getting up before 7 actually makes me sick to my stomach, and by the end of the day I have a migrane. I've heard that one of the guards volunteered to open the pool at 5:30AM on Wednesday. That is terribly nice of him, but I guarantee, he won't see me there, even though that extra 30 minutes might allow me to get to work right at 8. Lainey PS: It looks like our new club will be starting our workouts, week after next. Once we have enough folks participating we will elect officers and decide on a name, so we can register as the newest USMS club in GA! And to everyone who loves to compete I've a lot of people become excited when I told them that there were USMS swim meets, but most just want to swim for fitness.

I like to swim in the midafternoon or early evening. However, the pool I usually swim in is closed for renovations. Now I have toswim at 6:30 in the morning. It is terrible. I'm swimming where I went to college. Dragging my body tothe pool at that time is so hard. Then when I get into the pool I can't generate enough energy to do a good workout. After I'm done, I go home & sleep. For the whole day I'm exhausted. I don't know how people do it allthe tiem.

Being a night person is the biggest reason I haven't joined the Masters practice at 5:30AM (!) near my house. I am deep in dreamland at that time.

I've actually been thinking a lo about this lately. I'm a night owl and work until 1 a.m. foour nights a week, so morning is not a good time for me, yet I pretty much swim when I can get the time. Usually it's anywhere betwee 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Way back when I first moved to Minneapolis I was working a 2-10:30 p.m. or 3-11:30 p.m.. I joined a club that was open 24 hours and swam after work. I wish I could start doing that again. I am soooooooooooooooooo relaxed after I swim that I think I could best utilize that effect to sleep better. Everywhere I read, 'experts' are saying - do not work out before bed, it gets your blood going and it will keep you awake. This next week, I'm off work and my son is at a resident camp so I'm going to swim late every night and see how I sleep.

I was a morning swimmer but found out after living through some back problems that my body handles exercise better in the afternoon or evening. I am luck the pool near work has lap swimming during lunch time.
  • I prefer the evening workouts to mornings. I try to swim on Saturday mornings but my back is usually too tight to be able to put in a good quality workout. I do feel better for the rest of the day after a morning workout. To be able to put in a quality workout I have to go with the evenings for performance purposes.

I'm all over the place. On M - 3: to 5:00pm, W - 6:00 to 7:30am, Th - 6:00 to 7:30pm, F - 12:30 - 2:30pm, and sometimes on Saturday monings from 6:00 to 7:30am. This is also done at three different pools. The early morning swims are usually with a team and the rest are on my own. I have convinced myself that now I am ready to compete at any time of day since I am used to swimming at any time. Hope I'm right! Kerri

My pool closes at 2230 hrs M-F and 2130 on Friday. I usually get in the water about an hour before it closes. I'm trying to move that up to 2 hours before.
