Goggle issues

Does EVERYONE come out of the pool with deep goggle impressions around their eyes? I'm 51 y/o and don't need extra bags or creases! The goggle marks diminish eventually, of course, but stay fairly noticeable for hours. I have to strap them on tight to keep water out and fog. Anyone have the perfect goggles to recommend? Or this is just par for the course? Laura
  • i'm almost 42 i wear clear speedo pro googles, I haven't really noticed google rings yet. I tend to wear my gogs fairly loose in practice and tighten them up when I'm doing dive swims Ande Originally posted by Laurap Does EVERYONE come out of the pool with deep goggle impressions around their eyes? Oh ya! I am also 51 and racoon eyes have always been a problem from the goggles. It takes quite a few hours to disappear so if I'm going someplace important I cut the swim short or run instead. The only goggles I can wear are Speedo competitive. They fit well, keep the water out & you can get them at Walgreens. I'm interested what other people do about this.

I use the Barracuda Standards very water tight and comfortable.. no rings at all. They do take some time to get adjusted and some people cant get them to work right. They have to be adjusted by the nose piece and double head band .

I forgot to add the strange fact that I was born in 1954 and I too am ...51.. Hey lots of baby boomers out there.
  • I now use Kiefer Cruiser goggles, $5.95 plus shipping. They require no fiddling for weeks on end and don't leak from the first wearing. I can buy 6 of them for the price of one pair of leaky, complicated and funky looking Baracudas. Word of warning - I recently bought those new TYR X-SIGHT goggles. Don't waste your money on them! They leaked bad and part of the nose piece broke in half on the second week. They are now in the trash.

I think it is funny how everyone is declaring their age when they reply to this post! I'll have to look for the Barracuda goggles. Maybe that is the answer. Thanks for all your comments, everyone. Laura

I would love to have a good (leakproof) goggle that didn't cost 30+ bucks.

OK, I'm only 35, but I also wear the baraccuda standards. I am currently breaking in a new pair. It takes a couple of weeks of fiddling with them and clamping them down tight and then gradually loosening them - but after a two or three weeks they are leakproof with very little marks.

The Barracudas do have to be tightened up and adjusted.. some people cant get them right. They used to be a expensive goggle about 30 dollars, Today they not as expensive even at 35 dollars because all plastic frame goggles like Speedo/TYR/Nike are selling above 12 dollars-16 dollars. How much do they cost to make ..probably a half dollar. The Swedes are still below 5 dollars . The Barracudas also can be fixed up like new for 6 dollars with new gaskets, headband and clip Barracuda has a kit for them. If your swim shop has them good if not there on the net and then shipping is almost as much as the kit. The TYR/Speedo goggles with all plastic frames do last a long time and are readily available. When it comes to goggles and caps you just have to experiment. as I say its still a cheap sport/exercise for the equipment compared to lots of others.
