I saw someone post this picture in r.s.s. Apparently, the guy was upset that he wasn't let in a pool in Czechoslovakia where he was visiting (he's from the U.S.) Have you seen these kind of signs elsewhere? Not that I'm against them, I'm perfectly fine wearing the "approved" attire.

A friend of mine with the Ohio Rep.'s was standing ten feet away when he said that....
Gosh, I did not find it dumb....I thought it was rather well on the mark.....But, then again, that is why this country of ours is so great....you have the right to say what's on your mind when the time comes....and as Geek points out....when you do speak your mind....you are not going to end up in Siberia.......or get tossed out the back of C-130's over the South Atlantic.....or burried in some unmaked grave after getting your share of barbarisum for a few days at the hosts favorite killing spot....
I do not think we have the market cornered on being the fastest, smartest or brightest....but I do think we have it cornered on being for and standing up for freedom....
As to our being the police force for the globe...well, I sure as heck hope the folks that live around me....when I am old and feeble....will come to my rescue if some tin horn thug is wearing me out...rather then sitting on the side line and not getting involved....
Just Mr. Moose, Ralph and my 10 cents worth....
Awh man, I thought we had a good thing going here talking about Greece. Never been, but it is on my list, very near the top (number 2 behind Italy actually).
Mr. Moose, let me clarify my point. The police jump to your aid when a "thug" is attempting to beat your antlers off. But ignore the situation when two thugs are going at it. I don't have a problem with them helping you, I have a problem with them ignoring the second situation.
My biggest (and really only) complaint about the Clinton presidency was his lack of involvement in Rwanda. I don't like the selective nature in which the US polices the rest of the world. If oil is involved you bet will be there, but when MILLIONS of people are being slaughtered in Africa do we go intervene? No we look the other way. That is my issue. If the US wants to be the world police they need to police the world not just select parts.
Please forgive my poor spelling.....but a LOT of very, very fine young US Army Rangers got slaughtered in Magadiescho, Somalia attempting to stop Arasteeds slaughter of the folks that were starving....we lend BILLIONS of $....and many troops to Africa to stop that junk....
The reason the Middle East gets the most attention is because most of those nations want to KILL anyone American.....and ALL of Israel....and IF they get the bomb.....LOOK out for MILLIONS in Israel...and for that matter Europe....
Gosh, do NOT take my word for it...simply look at the huge hole in the ground where the WTC USED to be.....and the thousands of American people who died that day.....MANHY TIMES they have stated their goal of killing any none islamic person.....and when I say they...I am talking of HEADS OF STATE.....the same guys that have a full court press on putting together the BIG ONE....
I am so going to get fired from my job since I am spending far too much time here ...
First of all Beth, but I am right! ;)
Moose, you think it has to do more with that than with oil? Come on! It's all about our precious natural resources ... oh wait, just about the fossil fuels (the rest of the natural resources don't matter) ... Seriously though, I think it has far more to do with the oil than the lives involved. I don't agree with that at all, but I think that is the Washington mentality. Bush was looking to go after Sadam. The grounds he went after him on are pathetic at best. As it turns out there were no WMDs in Iraq ... Sadam had gone out of his way to distance himself from Al Queda. Not only would they have needed the technology to build the bomb, but the technology to get it over here. Israel perhaps, here no. There are VERY, VERY FEW countries with both of those types of technology. I really don't believe that any other country would dare try to use an abomb on the US - why because the retaliation would be too severe. The vast majority of Americans (CNN/Gallop poll) believe Sadam had AlQaeda connections, so NOT true.
Anyway ... the US should take a siesta in the middle of the day, it's an absolutely brillant idea! Nap, eat, chill ... ah ... beautiful!
Maybe if they would have stayed out bed long enough....then hitler's troops would not have run them over in less then a month....
I HATE WAR....slaughter is horrific for any reason....
BUT, I would rather be realistic to KNOW THAT HISTORY for thousands of years has taught us that if you cannot stand up for yourself....you are going to be holding onto some tin horns belt buckle.....
PAul, I am not sure about Norway, but can tell you some things about Sweden that is #2 on the list.Besides, Norway is another Scandinavian country and can have much in common. From my experience from learning economics in college, talking to some friends I knew from Sweden and visiting it myself, I can say that Sweden is a paradise.Their economy is considered to be the most developed , the gap between the "rich" and the "poor" is 2%!!!Can you imagine? There are pretty much no poor there! They have no financial problems there whatsoever. From what I learnt they mostly never lock there houses and crime aimed at gaining financial profit is something they are not very familiar with...One thing my friend brought up though was: it is so perfect that it is boring!I could not live there.Well, I guess we were used to too much "action" in Russia.
And then Paul, come on ,what is up with the question "What is there in Norway that it makes it the place to be?"Let us not talk about something that we do not know very well.Well, what is so good about ANY country? What you say is good about America is not just an American thing, we are not living in medieval times.Freedom of speech and all that is pretty much anywhere now excluding just a handful of countries.
it is good where we are and what we are used to - it is simple as that. With that I have to admit I miss Russia, not sure if I can live here all my life, but we'll see...
Amazing thing I noticed: I am better off here financially, but was happier back in my home country.Talk about what matters in life.
I still don't get the criticism of Clinton's extra marital life. Ok, he's a scum bag, no doubt. But that is his personal life. He is and was an absolutely brillant politician. I am not critiquing him as a person but him as a political leader.
And guys that can pull of a "Speedo" are hot ... they are very few and far between but if they are swimmers it's hot! (vs. middle aged balding, over weight, hairy men - no offense to anyone)
I never voted for Clinton (too young)... However, there are no pure political figures, most have many, many skeletons in there closet. Affairs, drugs, and other illegal activities ...
I admire Clinton's politics not his social life. He is a politician. I don't think that one has to be good at every aspect of their lives in order to be revered. Clinton is absolutely brilliant. He could think on his feet, and I think did a great job of leading this country. That's my opinion.
Back to happy talk about Greece!
