question on the IM

I was driving home today and started pondering about the 200 im suppose for a moment in the 200 IM you got to choose where you put each stroke in the race there's 24 different ways to do it what do you think would create the fastest over all time would Fly Back *** Free be the fastest combo for you? If not what would? Why? personally I'm thinking Fly *** back free would be fastest for me Probably Back Free *** Fly would be slowest What about you Anyone got any comments? Ande Rasmussen
  • Fun. I've wondered that too. I also thought it would be fun to just take the fastest 50 times and combine them for a 200, and the fastest 100s for a 400. I'd be a 4:12, still not faster than my husband!!!! Rats :(
  • when I swam for UT several times each year in the early season we would do the quadrathlon where we did a race 50 fl, bk, br, and fr we had about 10 minutes between each swim they assigned points for times my best year was 1985 where I went 23.1, 24.5, 27.6, 21.6 ande Originally posted by Karen Duggan Fun. • i think starting with back would be the slowest because you wouldn't get the advantage and momentum of a dive off the block. you'd have to start in the water. ending with fly would be plain ugly and painful for me it's kind of a complex question. Because as you move the swim sequence around you'd gain in some and lose in others i know if I put fly on the end I'd be lucky to go under 30 for 50 yards and at the beginning it would be pretty easy to go under 25 ande Originally posted by SWinkleblech I think my fastest would be the fly, ***, back, free. This way I would get the fly out of the way, rest on my worst stroke, take advantage of my strong stroke, and bring it home with the free. The slowest would be doing the IM backwards Free, back, ***, fly or even doing free, back, fly, ***. Interesting question. To bad we didn't have a choice.

Can I choose to drop the back altogether and double up on one of the others?

I like that even better. Drop the *** stroke and do two free. Then maybe I could swim with the fast IMers.:D
  • you know it might be good to put free 2nd or 3rd because then you'd get to flip the transition turn, it just worries me to put *** at the end, because your speed could really drop off as fatigue increases and power fades. ande Originally posted by Scansy OK, here it is. I would do fly, back, free then ***. Here's why ... The fly and back wipe me out. But I can recover pretty well on the free without slowing down too much. Then, I would have something left to do a good push off/pull down in the ***. I have been working on that and I can make up time on that. This would be even better if this was for short course - I get an extra pull down.
  • no it's a 50 of each stroke no dropping any strokes ande

I don't think you could flip the transition turn - don't you have to finish each stroke with a standard finish?
