I was wondering if someone uses a product to help with dry mouth. I have tried drinking lots of water but that doesn't help except that I want to pee more. When I swim more than around 600 yards, my mouth is very dry. To the point that I start coughing. Now, what I do now is, I turn on my back (or breaststroke) and get my cough out and then turn back around, but from then on, I have to cough so much and I have to keep turning around (or breaststroke), it's not productive.

Dry mouth is certainly a consequence of a badly balanced pool. This may not be an easy thing to confirm, since while I believe that most pool operators try to keep their pool in good shape, they are often not very willing to share their measurements of the pool condition, especially with the public. Also, it may be the case that while the pool Ph and chlorine levels are in the OK range, dry mouth can still occur - dry mouth was not a criteria for the establishment of these ranges. The worst case of dry mouth I ever had was in a normally well maintained pool. After workout and after brushing my teeth (I am not sure if it is related, I used a baking soda type paste) my skin started to peel from the inside of my mouth. I complained to my son about it, and he, not believing me, asked me what I meant. I dragged my finger inside my lip and showed him the mouth skin that then covered my finger. (That may be the grossest swimming story I have yet seen in this forum.) 330man - pool water is the cause of dry mouth, not the solution.
