What is the article about? Just a quick summary. I want to determine whether all the registration stuff is worth the effort. And here is a working link . But you have to be registered to see the content of course.

It is an article about a business chain that claims to improve athletic ability. Their business plan was modeled after the Sylvan Learning centers. They are selling 'training' to parents in the same way Sylvan is selling academic tutoring.

That seems like an interesting an idea with both ups and downs. If it does for athletes what Sylvan does for students I would hope that make it available to everyone as soon as possible! I know from personal experience how awesome Sylvan is, and if it can help my math that much, I would love to see what it could do for my athletic ability. On the down side, this seems like it would be an easy for overbearing parents to force talent onto their children, IMO. ~Kyra

There are several places like that around here. One is called "Lightning Fast" Their claim is "We Turn Athletes into Champions" Their web page is www.lightning-fast.com. They work with kids through professionals (they claim on their web page that they have worked with Brian Westbrook of the Philadelphia Eagles). I know a lot of people who have sent their kids to them.... including my son. He needed to drop 15 pounds one summer to be able to play football in the fall (a weighted pop-warner league) and he definately had the pounds to lose. He asked if he could go because some friends of his had. I went and watched a couple of the workouts they did with him. It was all structured towards his age - no bulky weights or anything like that. And they put him with young instructors so he didn't feel like a dinosaur was helping him. He did drop the weight - three days a week over the summer. I think these places can be helpful, but make sure you check into the place first. We heard a lot of good things about this program when we asked around.
  • Lainey, the link didn't work. And since you have to register to read AJC's content, people here might not be able to see the article unless they register. Since my parents live in Atlanta, I am registered. Do you want me to paste the article here?
