(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.)
I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense.
What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?
This made my day, Sista! :smooch:  :groovy: :agree:
Very important too ...
The hubby is out of town
And I am snowbound.
There is no school,
And the rugrats rule.
The only thing I reap
Is a bit more sleep.
No early morning swim.
I got to sleep in.
But they are being sweet.
Quite a rare feat.
Happy Valentine's Day FAF Twin Sista (I'm sure there's no supervillain in you)!!! :smooch:
Snow Day!
Oh, Yippee-I-Ay!
It is a snow day!
I teach little kids everyday,
But today with their parents they must stay!
Yippee-I-Ay!
Oh, I love the snow,
Especially when to work I don't have to go!
I just saw on a news show,
I get off 2 days in a row!

Thanks for the kind poem Fort....The part about wanting to be a fast flyer like me is kind of comical though.....Flattery will get you everywhere ...LOL!!....I'm not the one currently ranked in the top 5 in the 50 fly. We will have to race a 50 fly one day....it would be a good race I think.Newmastersswimmer
Ha, ha. The day I can actually swim a 200 fly is the day I'm a fast flyer like you. I think you're smoking me in the sprints too. I did have someone PM me that the SCM prelim results were out, but I haven't checked them yet. Doesn't matter, I'm a slacker. I think I only got around to a few SCM events this year ... But I'm trying again soon ... I hope ... If I don't get de-railed again ... Maybe SwimStud's sweet poem about my shoulder will help. Can't keep up with that (S)he-Man chick at all though.

Yep, another day off here in Northern VA as well. Glad you're happy. Not me. Although your poems make me happy! Do you still get to go to practice in my favorite pool ever where I swam that last 50 fly in the heat before your teammate Swimmie AvsFan?
There's another swim bud of the so fairer sex,
Some folks call her Kathy, and some call her "Tex"
Of mirth and of humour heart is just filled,
And when I get to talk to her, I feel so thrilled.
:smooch:
Me Blushing.
There once was a Stud named Rich
He lived in America though he was actually a Brit
He swims *** really quick
And though his accent is thick
He humors us all with his wit!
Happy Valentine's Day !!!!!
I like the poem and "owe" em rhyme at the end of your poem Beth...very clever. As for the actual content.....well..uhummm...perhaps I'll just leave it at that.....(and the nick name at the end.....really scaaaaalet....its like I told Kyra....please don't encourage him now!)...LOL! ::rofl:

There once was a Flyer named Fort
Whose posts we all like to court
She's smart and she's witty
She'ss fast and they say she's quite pretty
Hopefully we can race someday and afterwards drink a glass of Port
FAF Sista. (Breaststroker working on being a Flyer)
For the Guys.
My aqua brothers in Speedo and TYR,
Some whom I'll challenge in futures near and far.
Aye to the ladies I wink, but boys have no fear:
When we've raced in the pool; to the bar--
Grab a stool!
"Happy Laps" we will toast with a beer!
:drink:
To all of my friends
On this Valentine's Day
To you my dears
My compliments I pay
Dear Swimr4life
You encourage and inspire
Not letting anything get you down
Or dampen your fire
Lovely Fortress, My friend
Keeping things up beat
At Nationals, my friend
I can't wait to meet
Newmastersswimmer
What I can say
You've helped me so much
I'm glad we get to play
SwimStud, dude,
My commrade in arms
We'll beat those flyers
With their stroke causing harm
My adopted big sister
You know who you are
I can't wait til Austin
When we can dance on the bar
Poolraat, Poolraat
So mellow and cool
Slipping and sliding
Along in the pool
Sonic, the songster
The lyrics you write
I rock out to them often
Because their super tight
Swimmy, oh Swimmy
The poetry she dishes
I love her a bunch
As long as she's not with the fishes ;)
So to you my friends
On this Valentine's Day
Much love to all
On these forums we play!!
Ande Your song is great and all.....But can I suggest a couple of very minor changes though....Sub out Texas in the first stanza for Tennessee....and Sub out Longhorn in the last stanza for Volunteer.....I think the actual color you chose to write your song in would fit the theme a little better with these minor editings don't you?.....IMHO only of course.
Newmastersswimmer
p.s. I really loved your new poem Kyra!! ...as well as all of the new poems recently from Fortress....and even that British Dude (maybe).
Thank you, Rich, for the lovely lines. I'm honored. :)
(btw, I've lived here close to 7 years and still don't see the attraction to cheesesteaks or (shudder) scrapple. I do miss my Chicago pizzas and hot dogs though...)

Yeah, I still practice there with the team. Were you at the meet in December?
