The meaning of swimming

(I somehow lost my post in the middle of reviewing it--sorry if this ends up posted twice! Now let's see if I can remember what I wrote.) I was talking with a friend about swimming and she said she started "swimming for life" x number of years ago. I got the sense that she meant that it was more than a good workout--it kept her "alive." I have to admit that it has that kind of effect for me, too. At the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's nourishing in more than a physical sense. What does swimming mean to you? How does that compare to other sports or activities you do? How does that meaning influence your goals and performance?
  • St. Val's love for Swimr4life Miss Scaarlet cuts through the pool, Quite the Southern Belle "knife," And with that drawl I'll be a fool, For Beth a.k.a. Swimr4life. :smooch: Right back at cha! For SwimStud Always quick to make us laugh:rofl: A sense of humor beyond compare He is a master at the craft Of skillful jests that show great care Americans tend to think Brits stuffy :snore: They are so very wrong This Brit is not, he's quite a "Lovey" Sweet, caring, giving and strong! We all enjoy his posts immensely:joker: So much fun and jest! He defends his beliefs intensely To be among his friends is the best!! :groovy: On Valentine's Day he gives a treat to his buddies with great poems I hope someday we can meet I think a big hug I'll owe 'em!! Happy Valentine's Day "Sweet Buns" ;)
  • here's a little Valentine song I wrote my friend at 98.1 FM in Austin read it on the radio today ande We go together like Orange and white We go together like Texas and fight I hope that you Will Always be mine Will you please be My Longhorn Valentine
  • I don't get cheesesteak or cheesecake. Cheese itself I am ALL FOR! I love my Chicago style pizza and dogs. Giordano's being my favorite ... and nothing is better than a hotdog at Wrigley Field ... Oh, I miss summer ...
  • Its Valentines Day I must write a little ditty What shall I say To appear smart and witty? So I'll just say thanks To all of my friends They're of the highest ranks Like a Mercedes Benz There's Kyra and Fort and that FlyQueenie chic And that British dude who's as thick as a brick LOL!! :thhbbb: There's Poolrat, the Caped One, and Scaaaalet too And her friend (S)he Man and the Muppet who escaped from a zoo. So many others that I couldn't possibly list I would get writers cramp deep in my wrist So to all of my friends I just want to say I'm so glad to know you Have a happy Valentines Day! Newmastersswimmer Oh my, Newmastersswimmer was an old friend, He wrote a nice poem and then... I was left out and referred to as an... "other" Oh, brother! Oh, Seagurl sweet Valentine, Included me in her lines, She is a dear pal, Even though she is not an open water gal! Swimmy :)
  • sorry, should write a poem first in order to post on this thread, however... Oh, I LOVE cheesesteaks! You can't get them in Chicago (although Portillo's dipped Italian beef with hots is very very good, but an entirely different beast). Ooey, gooey chicken cheese steak is my favorite and the best spot is in Delaware: Claymont Steak Shop on Philadelphia Pike. Just a short jaunt down I-95 and then first exit off I-495. Yum, yum, yum. You are killing me here... Here's a hint: if the cheesesteak establishment looks like it might be shut down by the Board of Health at any moment... and if you can read the newspaper through the wrapper your cheesesteak came in, you've probably found a winner!!! I don't understand scrapple... I think you have to, at minimum, be born in PA to get it.
  • I miss Chicago...:( Me too. Forget pizza though. Go get ribs at Twin Anchors and hang out in Lincoln Park. Or is there a new hip area to hang out? Carrie: No requirement to write a poem to hit our thread. As long as you don't make fun of us hacks!
  • OK, Kyra. This is WAY off topic but where is your favorite cheesesteak place? The way people rave about them, I think I must not have tried the perfect steak yet. You tell me where to go, and I'll make it my mission (tough one, right?) to get there. I'll report back and give you all the vicarious thrills. Oh, How could you not like the food? Pretzels and cheesesteaks are so good! You really must find, A good Cheesesteak place to dine! Swimmy :)
  • OK, here's my promised St. Valentine's Day jokster poem. (Writing time 3 minutes: Dead Poet inspired, obviously.) Dedicated to my FAF Sista Twin, Beth, in honor of her comeback. :smooch: Aww! Thank-you FAF Sista! Happy Valentine's Day! To Fortress with Love You are the sister I never had My twin accross the miles With your encouragement, I'm never sad Instead, I'm always smiles Strange to feel so much love For someone I've never met seems orchestrated by above Friends for life, you can bet!!:smooch: Happy Valentine's Day Sweetie! Love, Beth This made my day, Sista! :smooch:  :groovy: :agree:  Very important too ... The hubby is out of town And I am snowbound. There is no school, And the rugrats rule. The only thing I reap Is a bit more sleep. No early morning swim. I got to sleep in. But they are being sweet. Quite a rare feat. Happy Valentine's Day FAF Twin Sista (I'm sure there's no supervillain in you)!!! :smooch:

Much ado about nothing IMHO. Correct. Sarcasm is always appreciated. Fortunately, Fortress' latest poem has none of that dreaded boyfriend-girlfriend stuff, even though it is now officially Valentine's Day. I think she and her twin are lucky to be cyber friends. I'm frankly hoping I got the right thing for my swimmer wife or I will be posting on the "Women are Trouble" thread since I don't write poetry. I always write a good note on the accompanying card though.
  • You gotta forgive me Swimmy....Didn't you read the part about the writer's cramp deep down in my wrists?? You don't want me to get carpal tunnel syndrome now do you? ....just j/k of course. You know how much I love you swimmy :smooch: ....its just hard to find a good rhyme for swimmy I guess. Newmastersswimmer Ha! Without me no one would be filled with rhyme, We've been friends such a long time. A little cramp in your wrist, Is better than a friend being dissed! hahaha Swimmy :)
